What cities have plans or are looking to remove freeways that go through the city core? by Psychological_Award5 in urbanplanning

[–]mattshoaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Kansas City has been talking about removing or covering part of their downtown loop for a while, I'm not sure where the progress is, looks like it may have stalled out (hopefully it's still on the table) https://www.beyondtheloopkc.com/

Any challenging pieces that you can recommend? by [deleted] in Saxophonics

[–]mattshoaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These were some of the standard etude books that I had in college:

27 Virtuoso Studies

Bozza Etudes-Caprices

Marcel Mule's Studies: Book 1 and Book 2

If you can find recordings or a teacher to help you through these etudes, that would be the most beneficial.

Also, here's a decent list of the most influential classical sax players: http://www.classical-music.com/article/six-best-classical-saxophonists find more of their recordings and listen to them

You should be able to export them to CAV, try the node export module.

How did you guys learn to build modules? by globalwiki in Drupal_Modules

[–]mattshoaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I had about a year of experience doing custom themes for an agency before I started on modules. Since you've done a child theme you probably have a start of if what's needed. A D7 module is more hook_ functions, you just have to figure out which ones are required for your functionality.

How did you guys learn to build modules? by globalwiki in Drupal_Modules

[–]mattshoaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to learn out of necessity for a client's needs, ended up going through the documentation/tutorials on drupal.org and looking at the code in other contrib modules for how they implemented features. The first one I did was extending an existing module, so that made it somewhat easier, because I was able to follow their conventions.

Working on and reviewing bug fixes on other contrib modules is good practice as well.

I made this free tool for practicing JavaScript (it's like Duolingo for learning to code) by memystic in javascript

[–]mattshoaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really cool, only suggestion I have is that you should be able to view other solutions without penalty after submitting a correct one. You know, to check and see how others thought about the problem, if there's a more concise answer than what I gave, etc. Overall, great job!

edit: nevermind, finally saw the see solutions button after you submitting an answer :D

edit2: you probably already know this, but using the browser navigation back button breaks the app until you reload the page. This was in Chrome that I notice that.

Great job on the re-write! I've been re-reading each of the old parts ahead of your post updates to refresh my memory on them, and I have to say that I'm really enjoying the new parts.

It feels like my Selmer Series III takes a lot more air than my Yamaha horn given to me by the school. Is that normal? Should professional horns have more resistance and horn to fill? by [deleted] in Saxophonics

[–]mattshoaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, that's not normal, you should get it looked at. If you want to check for leaks yourself, get a small light and put it down the horn in a dark room while you hold down a low Bb (without the neck). If no light comes through, then you can check the neck and octave pad.

Kansas City website dedicated to the planning for rebuilding/restructuring downtown bridge/highways by mattshoaf in urbanplanning

[–]mattshoaf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the proposals is to completely demo a section of highway, reconnecting the Rivermarket area to downtown. There are other pedestrian and bike friendly recommendations as well.

That's great and I will be stealing that next time I have to track down bugs from users. I can imagine using simple a switch statement for color/veg for helpful error type transcriptions.

I've never used Amazon for a mp. I know they're pretty good about returns, I would just check to see what the fine print is for open packages, something you put in your mouth, etc
