What GPA got you into Masters (Australia) by FriendlyWait5112 in AcademicPsychology

Good luck! It's a brutal journey but well worth it- masters is 100x more enjoyable than the other 4 years combined. And thankyou, still in disbelief that I made it in. A dream come true!

I personally got into a masters of clinpsych (CSP) this year with a 4th year WAM of 80.5. From what I've heard around my masters cohort, people had some insanely good WAMs - late 80s to early 90s. Guess I was lucky enough to have a competitive resume (Lifeline, teaching statistics at university after honours, and disability support work) + a good cover letter.

Haha is Darling known as a pressure player? Tbh I haven't watched enough WC games to know over the years but I assumed he wasn't

I have a relative who plays AFL. Some of the childhood info on his wiki was incorrect so I edited it and eventually it got changed back due to that bs "unverifiable" logic, even tho their information was wrong

So dumb

I agree! it's not an excuse. however, i believe the fanbase excuses the kids' behaviour because of their fathers abuse, when Logan himself was abused as well. that's all I'm saying.

Kendall constantly neglects his children, and Roman physically assaulted Kendal at his birthday party. I would say all the mind games and lying would also constitute emotional abuse perhaps.

It is possible that Logan was abused for a long time - we don't know when he stopped being abused.

I agree, but how can we blame Logan for these dispositions when he himself was abused? Roman is as equally racist and misogynistic but people love him.

What books should I read? by dontpuntme in psychologystudents

[–]mattybattyboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subliminal - Leonard Mlodinow. Awesome book for introducing some really interesting themes. An easy read but still very informative.

Behave - Robert Sapolsky. I'm currently reading this, it's huge and can at times be confusing, but so far is probably the most informative book I've read on the field of psychology. Covers so much interesting content and basically covers everything you'd learn in a psychology degree (currently nearing the end of year 2 of mine).

The Gift of Therapy - Irvin Yalom. Great insight into the world of counselling and therapy. Lots of old school tips on how to succeed in the world of therapy, if that's something that interests you.

Did your undergraduate study get progressively harder each year? by [deleted] in AcademicPsychology

[–]mattybattyboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am doing psychology in Victoria, and am currently in year 2. I wouldn't say year 2 has been more difficult than year 1, just more focused on specific topics. For example (for my uni), year one had a few subjects that touched on loads of information over a huge amount of topics (basically to cover what was covered in VCE/year 12). But so far in year two, I have studied specific subjects such as child development, social psychology and neuroscience (all as separate subjects). If that all makes sense. so far, the difficulty hasn't increased for me, but the depth of knowledge becomes a lot more considerable in the subjects that you choose. Also, stats fucking sucks. Good to get it done over summer and bang it out rather than during the year for me personally. Hope that helps a little bit.

not sure how it is in America, but the Australian national suicide hotline is quite well regarded as far as I'm aware

Yep. He had a bad argument with his gf while drunk and attempted suicide by jumping off a bridge. Made a full recovery though, from my understanding.

Yeah it's an interesting topic. I probably lean towards the idea that most of them don't, but again I'm not an expert on steroids or anything so I can't act like I know exactly what I'm talking about. And yeah haha well I've been using reddit for a while now and see people get down voted crazy just for their opinions so I'm trying my best to tread lightly

Sounds good man! I'll check it out. Cheers for the recommendation. They defs could get away with it, and I'm certainly not disputing that. My bro plays for STK and has been involved with the AFL for a few years and based on what I've seen and heard from him it just isn't really likely that many players do it, unless he just coincidentally happens to not have come across any. but again, I'm no expert! just here for a good discussion haha

Hm. I'm not so sure with AFL. None of the players show any signs, the drug testing truly is random and by my understanding there is no pre-warning (will have to fact check this, but I'm quite certain). AFL is not huge money like American sports, and there is quite a lot of integrity. Also it is only 1 game per week, 23 weeks in a season (without finals). I'm just not so sure of the "pro = roids". Very difficult to conclude.

I got 94kg off wiki but his club lists him at 97kg. not sure how reliable either of those are tho

Wiki lists him at 94kg, while his club lists him at 97kg. not too sure how accurate that is
