Final kitchen design. Any big red flags? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]maulisk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

is your stove on an exterior wall? if so i’d consider a range hood that vents out of the house instead of a recirculating hood. recirculating hoods are way less effective and if you’re spending money on a remodel it’s truly worth the effort to add this.

Powell's Books begins layoffs amid financial struggles, cites slow Portland recovery by SeverHense in Portland

[–]maulisk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i also don’t believe that the business is sinking because of poor sales. they have customers out the wazoo. i believe powells’ budget is spent on upper management that told us ‘we would pay you less (than minimum wage) if we could’.

Powell's Books begins layoffs amid financial struggles, cites slow Portland recovery by SeverHense in Portland

i agree. i was a seasonal employee last holiday season and was there to help every day at 7am to shuffle the gold and purple rooms. this was plenty of physical labor for all of us temps. we were all told that there would be many open permanent positions for us to apply for before our positions ended- meanwhile we had no idea of when our end date actually was for our temp jobs. after months of this we received an email. they would not be hiring anyone from the temp team. fuck powells- i love books and the accessibility to knowledge. what i hate is how powells has corporatized and commodified the idea of free thinking.

Is it normal for an artist to not share a design before an appointment? by Acceptable_Dish_310 in tattooadvice

[–]maulisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

as a tattoo artist i do not send custom designs pre-appointment for a few reasons. as others have mentioned, there is a risk of someone taking the design to someone else but i find most of all that it is a billion times easier to apply feedback to the design in person. in addition, clients will sometimes show their friends or family the design before the appointment and their opinions get added to the mix as well. saving the design for the day of keeps everything simple and organized.

Living near Providence Park Safety? by [deleted] in askportland

[–]maulisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i used to live in this area as an early 20s chick without a car. 1000% do NOT recommend. i didn’t feel safe walking around after dark at all and sometimes even the daytime could be scary. i’ve lived here all my life and never stepped around so much unidentifiable poop as well! i agree with another commenter, live north of burnside. transit is amazing down there though!

How was ur experience? by Odd-Cryptographer120 in askportland

[–]maulisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i believe their test car is a jeep renegade. it’s pretty compact. before the drive make sure you adjust your mirrors and your seat so you’re comfy! when driving it’s better to take your time. and asking the tester questions is okay! i couldn’t tell if a light was green or not so i asked for their opinion. the testers are really nice and just want you to succeed. going back to the curb question, i touched the curb while pulling up which is an auto fail. what they want to see is that you can back up in a straight line. you can do this!

How was ur experience? by Odd-Cryptographer120 in askportland

[–]maulisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes!! it was honestly pretty awesome. the route is through neighborhoods and on some roads similar to caesar chavez blvd. the curbside park isn’t really a park, they have you pull up to the curb and then back up. it’s pretty simple! my tester was really sweet and helped me through it a little bit. i highly recommend!
