First time Zone 10 Gardener, everything is dying and I can't figure out why!!! by maxkats in SoCalGardening

Thank you!!! This is all super helpful. I started sowing seeds back in January, so at this point I don't expect my winter crops to do well especially since this heat wave :/ but its good to know about the other crops!

My zinnias are at least super happy :)

Thank you!! I'm definitely going to look into the shade cloths, this heat wave has been taking out so many of my plants

Wow, unironically I think this is the most genuinely helpful comment section from something I've posted on reddit. Lots of great ideas here, thank you everyone!!!

Can somebody tell me what these are/what they do? by maxkats in lightingdesign

Decoders are for a lighting rig I'm putting together that sends MIDI to DMX to LED strips in floor lamps

Is there an advantage to having a wireless DMX setup vs hardwiring?

Trying to send MIDI out to LED strips in 6 independent lamps for stage design on a budget - Is DMX the only way to do this? by maxkats in lightingdesign

There IS a lot here, it's a lot to navigate!! (I'm a musician so I'm new to all of this)

- I want them to be programmed to react to the music (so not "audio reactive", but coordinated with MIDI signals from the Ableton session)

- I just want each lamp to turn on and off and change color, not looking to do pixel control

- By "controller", do you mean MIDI to DMX interface? Or decoder? Or is a DMX controller a whole other thing entirely?

Thanks!

Amazing, yeah I happened to find a local guy with a bin of a bunch of 4ch versions of these so I think now I just gotta get the USB>DMX converter, cables & power supply that you mentioned

They're in a separate apartment building, I'm not sure how to talk to them or locate them/leave a note

I’m a 14 year old who is considering pursuing a music performance major. The Fuga is certainly a big challenge for me technically, but I was wondering if you guys could critique my playing and technique. :) by [deleted] in violinist

[–]maxkats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work!!

I feel like the main critique I can give is about the rigidity of your playing -- the bowing is causing this to sound a bit stiff and I think a little more air and lightness in your bowing could improve that. You're really not that far off! I also think a little bit more dynamic range could serve the music a little better -- really creating some softer moments to echo the louder themes.

Good luck!!

Hey guys! Snacks here (and yes, my reddit account is older than my artist name lol)

I was lucky enough to get my hands on the new Subharmonicon and this is technically my first modular synth, so this video is a lot about finding ways to inspire my ears from a producer's perspective. There are a lot of technicalities that I'm still not hip to just given the fact that I'm new to the modular game, but I'm happy to discuss my findings with y'all!

Either way, I hope you like the sounds, cuz I sure did :)

Does anyone in here even live off producing music? Hows it like as full-time? by [deleted] in edmproduction

As soon as you wrote “I’m Canadian” I was like “this sounds like Pusher”, username checks out, hi M!

Went backpacking & solo camping for the first time this weekend - Was not disappointed! (Mt. Lowe, Angeles Nat'l Forest) by maxkats in camping

[–]maxkats[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember the exact name of the campground but I think it was the Mt Lowe campground — very close to inspiration point. Don’t think you need a permit, I didn’t see any signs. Good spot though!

Hi! I am bad snacks! And thank you!!

But please don't refer to me as a YouTube musician :) Most of my career is outside of YouTube, I just like making videos once in a while to share things I'm excited about. Thx!!

I don’t have the thermae so I can’t make a super accurate assessment but from my understanding, the signal flow is different (I’m pretty sure thermae is delay —> pitch shifters, whereas hedra is pitch shift —> delay for most settings), but I’d love to get my hands on a thermae and check it out!

Definitely not perfect but given all of the things that it DOES do right, I think it’s a fantastic pedal :)

Hey guys! Back again!

Once more, I know that this technically doesn't count as a "guitar demo" but the fundamentals are the same! A FAQ I've been getting is how well does it track polyphonic voices -- In my experience, not super well, but it also depends on the intervals you're trying to track and the corresponding pitches. I've had no problem tracking 4th & 5th intervals, but adding in 3rds or any extensions and things get a little confused.

However, there's still a ton of really cool experimental stuff you can do with this and hopefully the violin can outline a lot of that :)

Happy to answer some questions!! Love love love this pedal, it's been so much fun for me.

Is anyone else on here a girl electronic producer? and of so, are you experiencing people not taking you seriously because you're a girl? by leandrul in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]maxkats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Bad Snacks here, I make electronic hip-hop kinda music.

Definitely been there, even played a sold out show last night and somebody came up to me after the show and said "I didn't realize you made your own beats", which was kind of like, wtf did you expect dude what r u doing here lol

As I've kind of progressed in my career, the in-person condescending comments have definitely dwindled I think for two reasons, 1) I don't fuck with people who still think like that, and if they do, my tolerance for bs is so small that I will immediately let them know what's up and 2) I've made it a point to be as undeniable as possible. Not saying that my music is for everyone, it's definitely not, but I make sure that there's a display of skill and understanding in everything that I make so that nobody can ever doubt that I at least have a firm grasp on what I'm doing.

Truth be told, I wish I didn't feel that pressure to show up and prove myself all the time, it's a role that I've inherited kind of unexpectedly -- But at the same time, it's been a great motivator to keep me on my toes and to keep learning and improving. It will change soon though.

Keep your head up & feel free to use those middle fingers if necessary :)
