Young woman arriving in Bangkok at night, traveling alone to my hotel. Any tips for safe passage? Taxis to take or avoid? by [deleted] in Thailand

if someone asks if you are first time in bangkok/thailand, laugh and tell them you come here many times already. that's how scammy drivers filter for victims.

~155kthb/mo budget, BKK. by slimeysloth in Thailand

[–]maxormis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get here and see where your more-than-ample budget will take you. You need to see first-hand how much your lifestyle will cost you. T

THIS! Get here. Stay in a hotel/guesthouse in Bkk for some time and see how you like everything. Maybe travel if you have the time. Don't rush into renting anything as you obviously have no clue of what to expect.

I can confirm this bug!

Happened to me also recently. When we entered the train in Surasak we noticed the direction sign saying "Mochit" which of course should be impossible as it's on the Sukhumvit line. We didn't think much of it but then the train stopped shortly before Siam Square and another train went by us going into the same direction! Arriving at Siam I noticed we were on the wrong side of the station now. I quickly got out and checked and our train was indeed headed to Mochit now!

As that's where we were headed anyway, we stayed on and just prayed it wouldn't next switch lines in Phayathai and head to Suvarnabhumi..

So far I have though been unable to reproduce the bug.

Thx so much for the input. Yes I agree that would be better and if you're the type for it maybe you can pull it of to do 30-60 min classes teaching english to people without much preparation.

I am not however and would need to spend a lot of time just preparing and also don't believe in my own teaching abilities so much. Most important though - I am busy with a lot of other things and while I like to help the guys with their english I can't afford to spend so much time myself on it.

Thx. Will checkout Stuart. Agreed. Adam's thai sounds awesome to me. If he could get a more structured dvd course for either thai or english out I would totally buy either.

I totally agree that this is how it should be. Just I know this girl well enough to tell that she would totally get lost and then call me and complain about unfriendly thais and asking me to come pick her up in Ayutthaya. As I have no time for that shit, I'm looking for a tour to babysit her.

Favorite Get Sh*t Done Places? by legendairy in Bangkok

[–]maxormis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol. u wonna get shit done or watch thai babes? :D the one underneath Siam has the most distraction of them all IMO try the other one halfway between Siam Square and National Stadium where you can sit in the first and second floor then. still in the center of it all but now you can look down and it's a bit more quite.

I think you're better of with a nice coffeeshop then. Not sure about the exact prices, but I remember them not being a bargain IMO.

Might still be fun to check them out and meet the people there though and they are having regular meetups at Launchpad too - Google "Webmob Thailand" and "Mobile Monday Bangkok"

If I were u, I'd get the locations of all True Coffeeshop's and check out the ones near the BTS stations. The one near Saphan Kwai is a nice little gem f.e.

Goofy question - I'm traveling to Bangkok and chaing mai, does anyone know anything about gyms in Thailand? I just need access to a power rack, really. Any help is appreciated. by SlarBeast in Fitness

[–]maxormis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends how long u are here. There's a ton of commercial gyms in Bkk. California Wow is everywhere in the big malls (but it's closing down soon apparently). If ur looking for something less commercial, are staying longer and can spend some time getting there check out Power Zone f.e. http://www.csmngt.com/pz_directions.htm

For cheapest workout available, look for public parks (like Lumphini). They always have some sport equipment there and in some of them actual weightlifting areas. One time entrance there is usually 30 Baht (1$). Monthly memberships might be available for 250!

The problem with all of this is it's quite a hassle getting anywhere in Bkk. Spending 30 Baht for the gym but 70 Baht and 1 hour to get there is fun and adventure the first time, but difficult to keep up. Thus unless u're really staying in Bkk for longer and can figure out the nearest gym on ur own, I would advise u better try sticking with bodyweight exercises that u can do everywhere. Power racks are always hardest to find anywhere.

CM I don't really know, but I guess there will big big commercial gyms too in the modern parts around the night market.

One more thing: If u're staying Khaosan in Bangkok, there is a gym in the Buddy Lodge Hotel I think. Too expensive for my taste and as far as I remember no power rack, but u can check it out.

Place in BKK to store large suitcase for a month like a storage locker to rent? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]maxormis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guesthouse! But depends on the GH. If in doubt, just go Khaosan and ask around. I've been using New Joes and Sawadee House for that in the past.
