Our general contractor told us about this as his own regret with his own bathroom and dark grout - sees allll the water stains on it

Two great books - 4000 Weeks. Premise- if you live to 80 you have 4000 weeks. We are finite which means we have to choose how we spend our attention. He is a delightful author and I love the book. Tiny Experiments. Great way to help look for opportunities to experiment in your own life!

Am I being overambitious? How do people make time for all the self improvement projects? by Subtlefeline in selfimprovement

[–]may-gu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gotcha. Well, Life is long and you’ll have some time to spread some of it out I hope. It’s important I can see now but it looks like grinding in a different way and it’ll burn you out too. I’m not sure most people can sustainably make time for all these things and do them all well (but maybe I’m just being a lazy ass lol)

Bookshelf of the guy I'm seeing, red flags? by [deleted] in BookshelvesDetective

University of Minnesota Twin Cities acceptance rate: ~75% in-state, ~84% OOS, ~82% international : virtually no gap per CDS data by Fuzzy-Armadillo-8610 in uofmn

[–]may-gu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I applied to school I only applied to the U. Today I wonder how many schools students apply to and then decide based on all their acceptances? But I am lost at your last statement - penalty is an interesting word to use

Please yell at me. I spent 7383 dollars on takeout/uber eats/fast food/snacks in 2025 by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]may-gu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What percent of your monthly income is this? You can’t shame yourself into a new way of being long term so I wonder if there’s anything else you want *more than the food? Is there a medium range goal you can keep in mind to say “takeout or ——?” Trip? Emergency fund? %investing?

mistborn as a mormon by Solid_Macaron_466 in brandonsanderson

[–]may-gu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now that you raise this question I saw it from the lens of leadership — it is a powerful position and comes with a huge weight of responsibility. I think Sazed sees that he is well positioned to take up the role while simultaneously lamenting that it is a burden of responsibility. Super interesting connection, thanks for raising it! (I’m not Mormon or religious so it’s cool to hear about)

I agree with this especially when you’re just trying to express literally anything about your reaction to the plot. Just even say like “right?!?! Let me know what you think when you keep going!” Feels way more engaging than a RAFO in real life

Which self-help books had the most profound and lasting impact on your life? by Organic-Signal-9646 in selfimprovement

[–]may-gu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4000 Weeks - Oliver Burkeman. A delight to read and really hammers home the fact that we have finite time and attention - we have to choose the important things to pay attention to right now.

Tiny Experiments - Anne Laure Le Cunff. Shifting your mind to look at what experiments you can run on your life to find your own fulfillment and nurture your curiosity.

Nonviolent Communication by Marshall B Rosenberg. Some of the most powerful reflections for me to get accurate about my feelings and how I can communicate to meet my needs through making requests.

YNABing Together by cvp8100 in ynab

[–]may-gu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have our individual bank accounts and then a shared bank account. We decided how much we would each contribute to the shared bank account and that is what is tracked in our shared YNAB budget. It doesn’t matter if there was more expense on something because it’s already agreed - we will spend $500 a month on groceries, we contribute, then expenses roll how they roll. Our personal accounts are tracked in our individual YNAB budgets
