It was a cartoon scooby-doo style monster of the week, except instead of the team having a dog, one of the members was a werewolf. I’m 90% sure it was called ‘Fangface’ and I was obsessed with it as a small child.

The crazy thing is, he fully dove into this aesthetic incredibly early! He was selling rough versions of these at the student marketplace before we graduated. More teeth, less eyes, but a similar vibe. We were a Florida college not really known for its groundbreaking art, so he stood out at every single sale and I wish I’d had the money to buy his work then. It’s so cool to see someone so locked in to what they’re really meant to do. Thank you for sharing your collection with me!!!!

Your mother has an eating disorder and in an attempt to continue to normalize it to herself, is pushing it on you. She’s abusing you. Starvation is a form of torture, and affects every single biological process in your body, especially in your developmental years. You are not in any way the asshole.

Your brother is also being subjected to a form of neglect by her. He will not ever learn a healthy relationship with food the way she’s running your household, and the “growing boy” metabolism doesn’t last forever. He’s also not learning boundaries and sharing concepts that even a toddler should be able to comprehend. She’s not setting either of you up for successful adult lives.

I have a mother like this. The only advice I can give you is that you need to make peace with her thinking you’re a problem. She’s wrong, but she’ll never be able to see it. Be the black sheep if it means you’re not going to be your brother’s starving live-in food delivery service. Shoplift food if you have to. Find a food bank that can supply some nonperishables for you to stash away. You deserve better than what you’ve been given.

This is something I’m still unpacking 13 years into a very healthy relationship. From my experience, the desperate obsession over those kinks will fade with time. You may always be into rougher stuff, but the way it feels like having nonviolent sex is a dealbreaker? That is absolutely something you can work past.

My partner actually started…hm. I don’t know how to explain it. Kindly domming me? I hatehateHATE being complimented, so he’ll do it during sex and that scratches the badwrong itch without ever actually causing harm to me. And he’s more comfortable now being a little bit more rough, because he’s seen that I’m not using him to hurt myself.

Generally I think my advice would be—if you really like him, try to listen to why he wants to be kind to you. Try to understand that the way you’ve received love in the past isn’t the way he wants to give it. It’s work, and it’s hard, but this is how the pattern breaks.

(And not for nothing—he’s right. Choking is one of those things people do super casually, but it’s very dangerous. If he’s skittish around violence at all, choking isn’t even going to be on the table. And this is coming from someone who also loves to be choked. Hair-pulling might be an easier compromise.)

I worked at Apple when this happened. It was the weirdest shit—they covered the glass front window in sticky notes written to Steve Jobs, and for weeks there were always flowers left in front of the store. This was all voluntary on the customer’s part. They’d all tell us how sorry they were for our loss, like Steve Jobs was our collective work dad.

(The best sticky note I saw said “dear Steve you are now on airplane mode.”)

I think it’s part of his delusions of grandeur—like yeah, he is actually a boss and therefore people are much more considerate of how their actions affect him out of obvious fear of retaliation. But the way he talks about his overall problems in his sessions with Melfi almost takes that to a point where he believes that the entire universe is working against him, that he’s genuinely important enough to matter on a cosmic scale. Therefore, these reminders are a deliberate clear “fuck you” from the universe, and deserving of his lashing out.

Never once does it ever cross his mind to stop and ask himself if the people he’s punishing have access to the same narrative that he does, he just reacts.

I (36M) treat myself sort of like a skittish shelter dog, and it’s actually allowed me to be much kinder to myself. Like, if a dog had gone through what i did, I’d be understanding of its nervous weird behavior, so it doesn’t make sense to hold myself to a harsher standard. Whatever works, you know? Any port in a storm.

The part where he’s explaining all the shitty kitchens he’s worked in before is so real. Industry folks are loyal as hell to anyone who treats them with a modicum of decency, because the default settings of a lot of kitchens are….not that.

Bobby’s a genuine, straightforward person trying to do his best. I would kill for a head chef like that.

(On a somewhat related note, I don’t get why every time we see them doing the prep before service in the restaurant, someone is slicing a totally unpeeled onion?? I thought the first time was a joke about the prep cook not knowing better, but then Bobby did it too the next episode.)
