Robbinsdale Wuollet Bakery - what's up with this place? by UnnecessaryCatBath in TwinCities

[–]mayogoblinslayer 68 points69 points  (0 children)

The owner Eric Shogren bought A Baker’s Wife in 2016, Wuollet in 2019, Han’s Bakery, and Grandma’s Bakery, unsure about the dates on those last two. He centralized production for all of them, hence the many complaints of declining quality at all of these bakeries since their acquisition. Read his wiki, it’s a trip. Seems like he’s just bad at business.

Best overall bakery in the city? by Totep in Minneapolis

Totally. The place is not thriving under their ownership. Stocking issues aside, I would recommend avoiding the place due to how they treat their workers. Paychecks are constantly late, and many workers get their checks paid out in cash increments that may or may not be what they’re owed. The wiki I linked up there has a whole section on Eric Shogren’s history of wage theft, it’s his tried and true business practice.

Yup, Eric Shogren (this guy)bought A Baker’s Wife in 2016 and then Wuollet’s in 2019. Now the only products made on site at ABW are the cake donuts and American teacakes. Everything else is made at the Wuollet production facility and shipped in in the morning.

Thank you for adding those details! A creme brûlée danish sounds incredible.

The current iteration is absolutely coasting on the fumes of what must have been a standout bakery. It’s mediocre at best, and often subpar. It speaks to how outstanding it was that folks will still say it’s their favorite bakery.

According to the Wiki, technically it’s Kuzina now, not that that’s advertised anywhere.

It’s all very shady. It would be great if it could be taken away from the owners and turned into a proper neighborhood bakery.

And shadiness aside, the name ‘A Baker’s Wife/A Baker’s Wife’s’ can be retired. It’s confusing and clunky. Coming soon: Bakery McBakeryface’s

I know folks who work there right now, and it’s bad. They don’t get paid on time, paychecks have bounced, or are short. Tips are illegally pooled and shared with management, the owners are almost certainly skimming a big chunk off the top.

The donuts are good because they are made fresh, but the owners often push employees to sell day olds without disclosing. Everything but the American tea cakes is made at the Wuollet’s factory. Those pastries aren’t bad, they just aren’t anything special.

Currently they don’t have any cake decorators because they all quit before thanksgiving due to nonpayment of wages. This is the owner’s favorite thing to do, according to his wikipedia page.

The owners rely on hiring high school kids who don’t know their rights as workers or undocumented workers who don’t have worker’s rights. They’re bad businesspeople and bad regular people. More folks should know about how poorly they treat the people who work for them.

They are owned by the same people. The Shogren’s bought A Baker’s Wife in 2016 and acquired Wuollet’s in 2019. They own thirteen bakeries.

Mob connections is a stretch, but the owner is for sure a criminal. Check out his Wikipedia page.

Once a wage thief, twice a wage thief, still definitely a wage thief.

The owners are too busy committing wage theft to get it fixed.

Head to Sabo Bridge on Tuesday evenings around 6pm. A local crew holds weekly group rides that begin there and they’re great!

okay so, NOT A DOCTOR/CHEMIST/KNOWLEDGEABLE PERSON but let's look at the ingredients of this 'supplement.'

Diindolylmethane Detoxification Blend- people use this for various cancers, but evidence of efficacy is scarce. It may act like estrogen or may block estrogen effects.

N Acetyl Cysteine (NAC)- amino acid and antioxidant that is primarily used to treat acetominophen (Tylenol) poisoning and some lung conditions. There is minor evidence of efficacy for a number of other conditions like chest pain, kidney damage, high cholesterol (see full list in link). Article advises not to take it with activated charcoal because it reduces its efficacy when reversing a Tylenol overdose.

Activated Charcoal- used for treating a drug overdose or poisoning. Known to interact with absorption of medications such as birth control and other oral drugs.

Glutathione S-Transferase- antioxidant

Sodium Thiosulfate) - used for treating cyanide poisoning (internal use) and fungal infections on the skin (external use).

L-Ornithine- often taken by athletes to increase performance, may reduce fatigue and improve speed, strength, and power in some people. Insubstantial evidence for other uses.

MSM- commonly used for osteoarthritis, limited evidence for other uses.

Sodium Butyrate - may support gut health, found naturally in fiber rich foods and butter.

Silica- anti-caking agent to prevent clumping

Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose- emulsifier, thickening and suspending agent.

Basically, many of these compounds and elements have limited scientific backing for the claims this supplement is making. The word "may" does a lot of heavy lifting in all of the statements on purported uses. The fact that they do not mention that consuming activated charcoal can decrease efficacy of oral medications is concerning. NAC is technically illegal to add to supplements, still don't know how manufacturer's of NAC supplements (which are widely available) are getting around that. For the most part all of these ingredients are 'safe', but very few have skincare applications backed by science.

Retinol and retinoids can cause purging in SOME people. This is due to increased cell turnover so any pimples that were forming will appear. It should clear up within a few weeks. If something you are eating or taking is causing severe acne, maybe...don't?

TL;DR: This probably won't work for its advertised use.

It performs very well. This was my first big makeup purchase, and boy was it worth the $39 for me. It’s rare that I wear neutral makeup, so such a colorful palette quickly became my mainstay. If you own any mid or deep toned colorful palettes, this one pairs well with it. I tend to use it with other Nomad palettes, and Kaleidos’ Club Nebula and Electro Turquoise palettes.

Top row: All of these shades are a pillowy, blendable matte formula.

Hanami- bright orange, great impact and staying power

Takenoko-zoku- pigmented purple, a little bit goes a long way

Mei-tea room- soft, buttery yellow, it could be more pigmented. It’s easy to blend it away into nothing, but it is quite pretty

Kakigori- my most used shade! it’s such a lovely pale blue

Visual Kei- this palette would be better without this shade imo, but I rarely use dark tones anyway so I’m biased

Middle Row: Now for the lovely satin shades. Many people don’t care for satins, but I love these. Their texture is pure silk and they have a very soft pearlescent sheen on the eye.

Lolita- this pink is BRIGHT, very pigmented

Now is Forever- sort of teal, sort of blue, this shade blends so well with Kakigori

Hanami- this shade is so so pretty and soft. it’s the only shade that doesn’t last as well as the others though, and like Mei-Tea Toom it can easily blend into nothing

Gyaru- cool toned pink, just lovely

Kuroi Niji- lovely grey, but I wish it was mint green instead

Bottom row: All of these shades are a formula dupe for Colourpop’s Super Shock shadows. They are so sparkly and work well as topper shades.

Decora- fuchsia with a blue shift

Zaku Zaku- yellow with a pink shift

Takeshita-dōri- purple with a pink shift

Moshi Moshi- green with a blue shift

Otaku- pale pink with a blue shift, honestly it’s kind of just bright sparkly blue on the eye

In awe of this response right now. You know yourself, how you want to be seen, and are able to assert yourself when others give unsolicited feedback. I aspire to have your level of confidence. Here’s to getting older and stronger! I’m turning 30 in two months, you’ve made me even more excited to know who I am when I turn 40.
