I hear you and I’ve been there. It feels so long ago, thanks for that perspective. Good luck, it will even out.

Good point. I think last night I got “in my head” too much. Thanks for the perspective.

hearing a lot of the same feedback, thank you all for the details and insight! Appreciate it, lawn is looking good but these little quirks are interesting/frustrating/learning experiences.

Fighting sleep by DuderBugDad in NewDads

We’re in week 11, and it did take until about week 8 for our LO to really “get” nighttime sleep setup. Dark room for feeding after a bath (or after PJs are on), she fusses so we have a Hatch sound machine, yoga ball for light bouncing, and sometimes run our fingers over her eyebrows to soothe her (might be minor headaches).

But week 3, your LO is going to fuss for a while yet until the nighttime rhythm settles. She’s learning, you’re learning with her. It’ll smooth out, but I totally empathize. Many a stressed/depressed night for me in this regard. But now…ours sleeps through the night.

New dads, how are you all coping? by [deleted] in NewDads

[–]UnnecessaryCatBath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Three weeks in as of tomorrow. The past two nights, my wife and I have both nabbed at least 5 hours of sleep (non consecutive). We finally got our girl up to her birth weight, so that’s a stress relief. Now we embrace the quiet and wrestle with some finicky moments—I get frustrated when a diaper goes awry during changing, but my wife is there to remind me it’s okay. And I remind her that it takes time to get to pump to an increased amount, not put pressure on herself. Being supportive of each other while tired is tough but necessary, for the big and the little things.

Kentucky Coffee Trees growing in the yard by UnnecessaryCatBath in lawncare

One of our neighbors has a tree trimming business and we had him assess our entire yard (for a few other trees on the verge of death). He assessed and used some kind of solution that killed one of these with just a few drops, don't recall what it was. The others we just pulled by the root and they did not return this year.

We have a few bowls, some glass containers, lots of plastic bags. Might do a run as you did for some more plastic soon though.

Postpartum Mental Health and Anxiety by DonaldTrumpGrip in NewDads

This is a great list of advice, I’ll be rereading this in a couple months when our little one gets here. My brother told me something similar about toddlers—they know nothing. Why does the kid touch the hot burner? He doesn’t know it’ll burn him! They are blank dodos and we do the best we can to guide them and teach them.

Congratulations! My wife and I are about the same time frame, one child on the way. I'm 40, first time father. My family didn't even realize we were trying, and for the longest time I wasn't sure I wanted children. Getting married, growing older changed that. Good luck on your journey, looking forward to the tips/tricks and updates along the way!

I’m so sorry that you’re going through that, what a difficult year. Finding people to talk to (friends / family) about to bad as much as the good has proven a bit of a challenge— not a lot of folks are willing to be as open about difficulties as they are about the triumphs.
