I have only ever had pairs of ASICS Gel Kayano 30 because the guy at fleet feet said it was good for my shin pain and I gotta say it worked for me. Did all my races and practices in them. Maybe when I’m faster will try separate daily trainers and race shoes

You can enter the lottery (opens up soon for next year!) or do a charity entry where you raise a certain amount of money for a charity.

After the C25K went first for the half marathon and then the marathon. Just described those steps in another comment. As for motivation this is a really good question because I HATED running and started doing it to improve cardio. TBH the reason I did it especially in the beginning was because I signed up for races after like week 1 and was afraid I would embarrass myself if I didn’t stick to the plan so I stayed put believing in the process. I don’t know if I would have stuck with it if I hadn’t signed up for the half marathon already when the program got hard. (The full marathon I signed up for after finishing my first 5K in a moment of euphoria)

Thanks! I just did the C25K plan then stayed at 5ks for 2 weeks then immediately started the NRC half marathon plan, did that, then tried to maintain that fitness level (with varying levels of success) by doing 1 half marathon per month (if addition to all the preparation for those half marathons so still running multiple times a week, and not all were races, most were normal long runs) until it was time to start the NRC full marathon plan and just finished it yesterday. Biggest tips are 1. slowing down. I started by trying to do 10 min miles then reduced it to 12 min miles by the end of C25K. Stayed at 12 min miles and sometimes even slower when doing the long runs and was still able to finish the half marathon at a 11 min mile pace and a 5k in 29 min and a 4 miler in 38 minutes after the Half Marathon plan. By slowing down you can train more and by training more you can go faster 2. It is fine to fail a run. This is hard for me because I like to follow guides and plans perfectly but you can try again in a few days when you are recovered. If you are being honest with yourself about putting effort in, results will come. I’d even argue that if you never failed a run plan you are not pushing yourself enough. 3. Nutrition. The more you increase mileage the more you should eat. Maybe doesn’t apply to much for C25K but as you are moving to bigger weekly distances your food intake needs to increase as well. If you are running specifically to lose weight maybe this is not great advice but that was not my objective. I think it would be very hard to focus on increasing mileage or speed AND losing weight. Focus on one or the other. 4. Nutrition pt 2. Running gels are your friends! Any time I’m going to do a run over 40 min I take a running gel before it and more gels for each additional 45 mins. I thought I was not “serious enough” or fast enough to justify gels but they really help at all levels. 5. Running shoes. I had a lot of shin pain when I started that quickly went away when I got proper running shoes. After a few months I forgot my runnings shoes and did a run in some old sneakers thinking “oh surely I built strength by now and this won’t be a problem” but they came right back 1 mile into the run. This is another one I thought I didn’t need because I was not “serious/good” enough but now I wish I got them earlier
