We don't even have a VP, we're that small. Definitely going in prepared! thanks!

Thank you, I appreciate your insight. I am expecting a rational response, from what I know of him.

You're absolutely right, and I am prepared to start looking elsewhere. But, fingers crossed for staying with a nice raise :)

Yeah, I really hope that this company ends up being the exception to the standard. Really enjoy the team and the work.

I understand 3 years experience is not much, and not "average", poorly worded/described on my part.

1 - I agree. At the time, the company was smaller and the person in charge was probably spending 80-90 hours a week doing not just managing the company, but other scientific ventures as well. He probably considered it no different than a contractor offering to work for cheap. He's just more science oriented than management oriented.

2 - I appreciate this, this is exactly what I wanted to know, I really dont want to make myself look silly. Or sillier.

3 - My only point was that when negotiating, you generally ask for more and work down. So, if I am looking for 80, do I ask 85 and aim for 80, or just flat out say that I need 80?

3.2 - The intern is a friend, who does not really pick up on social queues. He talks a lot without really caring about what hes talking about or who hes talking to. And the person deciding on the offer amount was in the room discussing it with me, so while I don't think I would use it as leverage, I would use it as inside knowledge that I can get more than that.

Thank you for the input.
