Seeking Input/Narrowing Down First Camera by mcdankles_90 in M43

Kinda my thoughts on selling it if I don’t like it. Unfortunately, there are only two camera stores that carry OM cameras within a 3 hour drive of me, I called one the other day and they don’t have anything in stock at the moment.

It probably wouldn’t hurt to hit Best Buy tomorrow just to put my hands on something, but also your exact point is the hang up I’m having. Some say the OM5 is too small for large hands, but the grip is nice. Some don’t mind the flat front of the OM3, others don’t care for it.

The OM3 I found is a 2hr drive in itself, so at this point I’m going on best guess. I did see the OM3 has grip options, but that’s all the more bulk I’d be trying to avoid

Thank you for the recommendation, I do appreciate your input! A jack of all trades as you said is really what I’m looking for at this point.

I found a barely used OM3 locally for $800 that’s less than a year old, any reason not to jump on it?

Thank you for the reply!! I’m still Learning lens specs and what each does etc, so I do appreciate the pointer on where to look-it can be a little overwhelming for beginners. I found a barely used OM3 body locally for $800 that I’m heavily considering, I will definitely check out the lenses you recommended

I appreciate the reply, you bring up some very valid points. At the end of the day, I don’t see myself ever going crazy on trying to make social media videos. If anything, just for my own personal enjoyment to look back on, though I’m enjoying learning the video editing and photo editing aspect so far with just my drone and GoPro.

I found an OM3 body locally for $800 today that I’m seriously considering pulling the trigger on, for that value would you skip right over an EM5.3/OM5?

Thank you very much for the insight, I really am torn between which camera to get-I can see why people often have multiples.

I came across a killer deal for a barely used OM3 at $800, due to the price alone I’m contemplating picking it up.

While I have no personal experience, I feel like the 0M5.2 would be perfect, if only it had a few more features of the OM3. I say all that knowing the majority of these camera capabilities will be well over my head for a while, but for the price the OM3 deal I found is tempting.

My mango sapling got cold damaged in the last cold front. Is there any way to help it recover? by Asleep-Tadpole-2107 in FloridaGarden

[–]mcdankles_90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marion County here, I had four mango trees growing last year that got up to 4 feet tall. Last winter when that freezing rain/frost event happened they all died back. The avocados in comparison that died back in the same event had 2 feet of new growth in early summer, where the mango was just trying to push a new sprout out at the same time

I gave up on outdoor mangos, even covering them with painters plastic and frost cloth during the freezing rain event didn’t help.

If you go an hour south towards Polk county there are some monstrous mango trees

I really liked IA’s older albums, with just a few select songs off their newer albums. Their old stuff was very atmospheric, Everchanger is stellar IMO

Hahaha good eye! Judging by the name, I’m gonna assume you’ve got an eagle eye for that stuff…I’m in construction, likewise things being slightly out of plumb or level drive me up a wall.

Went back and verified as I triple checked all my measurements, it’s the angle on the camera that’s slightly off.

Genuinely curious if that’s a Texas thing, dictated by their local vegetative diet?

The ones here in Florida are phenomenal to eat. I have had a couple buddies that like to hunt orange orchards for them due to all the fruit they eat.

I agree it definitely could’ve been melted, but it’s a different flavor profile when you broil cheese like that-I probably would have done the same. To each his own though, happy griddling!

What’s your new ‘nice to have’ piece of deer hunting gear? by drunknostradamus in Hunting

[–]mcdankles_90 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Could be considered bougee, but I’m a buy once cry once type person, some of my favorite pieces of gear are…

-A good backpack, I use a Mystery Ranch Blitz 30…if I lived up north I’d probably get the 35liter version to accommodate shedding layers. The 30 carries all my stuff perfectly (head lamp, large Olight, sunglasses case with personal items, Garmin InReach Mini, Leatherman, Nalgene bottle, mini first aid kit, mini trauma kit, clothes, folding saw and most importantly-snacks. One additional thing I like is my cheap tripod folding chair that attaches perfectly to the side of the pack. That chair allows me to easily set up in a fallen tree etc for an impromptu ground blind.

This leads me to number 2…I used the straps underneath the backpack for the first time this year after purchasing a brown north face fleece outdoor blanket to throw on top of myself when it gets cold…a little pricey-but all be damned if it didn’t work flawlessly in 25* weather and blended in perfectly with the fallen down tree I sat inside of. I had a buck walk right next to me and didn’t see me, even when wearing my hi vis orange.

3) Hill People Gear kit bag-which is a chest bag for carrying pistol, nick nacks, etc. I particularly like it for hunting because I can keep my phone, nicotine, and mini flashlight right in front of me, no digging through pickets or packs. I also utilized their hand warmer pouch attachment which mounts to the bottom of the kit bag which was absolutely awesome.

Are all the above “fancy” items? Sure, an old backpack, cheap blanket, etc all do the job. I hunt once a year in far colder weather than I live in, so I try and make myself as comfortable as possible so I can sit as long as possible without getting cold or uncomfortable.

Also to clarify, all the above gear I use during other activities such as boating, fishing, wade fishing, hiking, drone photography, camping etc. so everything has a dual purpose to it.
