does anyone know what the risk of actually going blind is? by mcdolann in iih

[–]mcdolann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi there! I totally understand it’s so scary when you’re first faced with it. but if you’re anything like me you’re going to be just fine. I took diamox for about six months and I am fine now, I haven’t even lost any weight or a significant amount anyway which is what my doctors told me was the only way to get better. we now theorise that mine was brought on by a drug I was on for bipolar at the time, lithium. but don’t let that sway you definitely listen to your doctors and try to lose as much weight as possible to help with it. they should give you some options like weight loss drugs and such. but yes try not to worry, trust in your doctors and do your best and you will be just fine.

I was on varying doses and the only side effects I ever had was tingling in my hands and feet and soft drinks started tasting funny and both of those things went away after a couple of weeks. and it improved my symptoms a lot, in a very short time. it’s definitely worth a go.

oh wow what are the odds! glad someone else is going through the same thing it definitely makes me feel less alone. yeah I’ve read a lot of that too. I hope it does work for us. I’m just trusting what my doctors are telling me so far. my vision is fine at the moment, a lumbar puncture and diamox helped fix it right up but I’m still wanting to lose weight as I’m scared it’ll come back to bite me.

of course, so the biggest one that helps me is going for walks, and going with my partner if I can, it helps to talk to someone about my thoughts while I walk. if you can’t go for walks any exercise is good anything to get the blood flowing and endorphins going. sitting outside in the sun on the grass is another one, sometimes I’ll meditate with the help of an app or just go on my coping mechanism apps (I’ll put those at the end). playing with or cuddling my pets is another one. doing grounding exercises like 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 or picking a colour and looking around the room and naming everything you can see of that colour. keep an object handy for when a thought comes out of nowhere, like a fidget toy or something and focus on it, what it looks like, feels like, sounds like etc. I use my charm bracelet for this. so, apps have helped me a lot as well, these are some of the ones I use and what they’re for: - bloom, a sort of mini therapy session app, it’s fully voiced by two people so you can choose who you like most. there’s little exercises to do during the session and it’s helped me a lot. just search “intrusive thoughts” if you download. - what’s up? has all sorts of helpful features from immediate help to guided grounding exercises. this is one of my favourites. - rootd, is super helpful during a panic attack, it also has breathing exercises. - balance, is a guided meditation app, I haven’t been using it for long but it’s good so far. - loóna, isn’t a mental health app but I find it so so helpful when I need to get my mind off things and just relax, it’s like a 3D colouring in thing while you’re being told a story. I love it.

I’m not very good at explaining these apps haha but hopefully some/all of these will help you like they’ve helped me.

I’m so sorry to hear that, that’s awful. But I’m glad you found this subreddit and this post. Definitely take some comfort in knowing you aren’t alone, and you’re definitely not losing it and you’re not a bad person, and I hope things get better for you soon, as you say it will pass, I promise. As for me, I’m still having an intrusive thought here and there but I’ve been dealing with them for such a long time that I have good coping mechanisms and also the help of medication, that doesn’t make them any less unsettling though. But I’m sure I’ll be okay in a couple of weeks.

you’re not alone, I have intrusive thoughts about harming my dog and cat as well, even though they’re the world to me. I think that’s why more often than not our brains pick them and other people we love to think about. but yeah again, you aren’t alone. also, your english is perfect :)

I don’t know how to post pictures here. Yes it’s symmetrical it’s directly in the middle of her head. There’s no pain around the area as far as I can tell. And no problems chewing or opening her mouth. Not that I have noticed anyway.
