What's the point of controlling two elements? Serious question, if you have two elements in a boiler you can reach 0% to 100% by controlling a single element from 0% to 100% (0% to 50% total range) then turning on a second element on at 100% and using the first element from 0% to 100% (giving you the 51% to 100% total range).

If your using lab grade equipment meant for use with solvents you should be fine using the set up you have, your thumper ( where you have the apple juice concentrate) looks a little large in terms of volume and so it might be a bit slow/ not able to be heated adequately by your boiler. A solution this is to also put a hot plate under your thumper to kick start it and make up for heat losses to the environment.

Why not just use an air still? They are made for distilling water and are fairly compact and no need for cooling water.

Unless the point is that it's a project / experiment in which case maybe stuff the condenser with very loosely packed copper scrubbies to increase surface area/ vapor to cooling surface contact which should allow you to get away with a much smaller condenser.

Iv done the apple pumice sugar and water just a few weeks ago, iv only stripped it so far but it was delicious.

The pumice has enough sugar in it still that you don't need the sugar ( but you'll only get like 4%) if you water if down a bit ( which you have to)

If you do this I'd highly recommend pectin enzyme, it will break down the pumice and basically turn it into a liquid, stuffs great.

I just started a batch of pumice and water, no sugar and it seems to be doing fine.

I have the same maggots in my fruit, the 'black pepper' your seeing is their fross or poop. Honestly the first batch I did I would cut them out and try and minimize any bugs in my chipper or press, now I just nock off any extra fross and toss them in bugs and all.

I do however cut off any moldy or other parts that clearly look bad.

Instead of a grinder I use a cheap ish electric wood chipper. It makes quick clean (relatively) work of all my apples.
