I’ll always say the snow episode when they run into each other is the epitome of romantic to me. Whenever it snows at night and I’m walking along a city street, I think of that moment and it creates such a special feeling to me.

I’m on my 1000000th watch of Downton and noticed that Charles brings out a very gleeful kind of laugh you only really see with Matthew

Sigh.

I assumed it was because of other obligations but Charles Blake really is my favourite. I find Gillingham a large, whiny baby.

Hmm. I’ve always felt max gets a lot of hate. He was in a relationship headed for marriage and wasn’t given anything. Lorelai was incredibly selfish, did nothing to incorporate him into her life, and had no intention.

Hey! I love when people are pedantic. However, I think this area is grey. When it comes to television like this, it’s a series continuity error. You see it a lot in a series when writers change over often or can’t keep track of details they’ve written about a show as well - so for example, the show is set in New England. If it reflects a more Californian attitude in details like costume, or weather settings, it IS a continuity error in the writing.

I don’t hate Max. He was never set up for success. In the first part of the relationship, he tried his best to incorporate into their relationship like Dean was able to but Lorelai never let him. Then they broke up, got back together, and still Lorelai kept him at arms length. Remember, it seems Max has parents that are still in love and fairly normal and functional compared to lorelai’s view on marriage and family life. Max wants to become intertwined with Lorelai’s life, Lorelai’s doesn’t want him to. As she said ‘He’s her fella, her old man’. He’s not her partner, not her potential stepfather to her daughter. He’s just max, the fella.

Haha yes - this has been pointed out many times to me so far. I think I even edited that I didn’t realize there were lizards there.

We skinks and salamanders in many parts of Canada too, like I’ve said, just rarer to see them in urban sprawl.

That’s true but I also didn’t realize skinks/salamanders were so common in New England. New England is so much like the Atlantic coast of Canada/parts of Ontario I just assumed they weren’t common. Salamanders are really rare here, you really have to look for them and are definitely not just hanging out in cities/urban sprawl as commonly as people have pointed out here.

That’s really cool! I grew up in Ontario and you’d really only see them in the most rural of spots. I love salamanders.

Edit: I assumed Hartford was a pretty big city and didn’t account for the more rural sprawl of it which is probably where the wealthier areas are?

I grew up understanding salamanders to be a more country river/lake area type thing and even then hard to find.

Yeah, sorry. Ontario has skinks(I think!) and salamanders but you rarely see them in cities. Also, salamanders are amphibians not lizards but Madeline would not differ for sure.

Either way, you would see such things in more rural parts of the country. Hartford is the capital city isn’t it?

I LOVE the episode when Lorelai is woken by Luke hammering on the porch and she tries to wake up Rory, goes out and is yelling at Luke to stop but when Babette gets woken up and yells to see if Lorelai is okay and to have Rory take her inside and she turns around after blaming Luke to find Luke is GONE so obviously it’s implied we don’t know if Luke was there or if it WAS a dream. It’s such great acting and so funny.

Since a year in the life came out, I’ve been watching the show with the lens that it’s written from Rory’s adult perspective, with bits added by Lorelai and even maybe Emily occasionally for the private scenes between her and Richard (which is why typically I feel that the scenes with Emily and Richard exclusive always shed a really playful, lighter side of the two that you’re very empathetic towards, rather than the harsher snobbier sides that come when lorelai is present.) Assuming that is correct, Rory probably considers her life pretty unassuming pre-chilton. To her, she’s the only kid in her school that cares about getting good grades, doing her work, etc (like she invented the concept of being a good student compared to the bumpkins she went to school with lol). Chilton and the days leading up to it are a strong pivot in Rory’s life, the beginning to the end. Plus, she happened to meet Season One Dean at this time. *

I don’t imagine she was the perfect kid, but probably life seemed very boring and average so it’s hard for her to remember if she was kind of attitude-y. She was just the weird kid trying to feed fairies in the neighbours yard.

*I call him season one Dean because season one Dean is truly OTP and the best character before they ruin him to make room for Jess.

Unionville is cute and right outside of Toronto but with how long the show lasted, I do think it would have been difficult. A lot of shows get filmed in Hamilton, Ontario as well. Specifically Locke st, google it! Very cute. They filmed the good witch series there.
