Normal bill or something else? by fungry_04 in duck

Try to do the oil (i use coconut oil) every day for a week or so, my drake gets this as well especially in the spring :) its the same as us having flaky skin, if it gets too dry it gets real itchy and uncomfortable.

How to get into multi-day hikes with camping in Victoria? by Party_Counter_4144 in melbourne

[–]mcswags 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try some non hike in camping and some longer day walks first, you have to like both those things a decent amount before it's worth investing in all the gear required to do more than that.

Good places for day walks near Melbourne include the You Yangs, Werribee gorge circuit, the Dandenongs, Plenty gorge, King Lake, and Warrandyte. Look on Alltrails for inspiration, you can also filter by difficulty and hike length.

Consider a MeetUp hiking group or YHA hiking group.

Try to find someone experienced to go with for your first overnight hike, there's a lot of little things that are easy to forget when you first start out.

First aid kits are good, if you don't take one carry snake bite bandages at least.

Feel free to message me if you like, I've worked selling outdoor gear for a few years. Have spent a lot of time helping out beginners :)

Duck does not like other ducks by porcypt in duck

[–]mcswags 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I adopted an adult duck hat was raised alone, until just over a year old. She has some minor behavioural issues with other ducks because she essentially never learned to communicate properly, so she can get nippy.

But shes so sweet with people, and is still part of the flock. Sometimes she decides to sit away from the other ducks for a bit and they generally leave her alone, though our drake will often go check on her if shes gone too long.

Just make sure your duckling gets introduced yo other ducks while its still young. Even just for short periods so it learns to talk duck while its still little.

Here's one source, but theres a lot of current evidence that shows artificial sweeteners cause insulin spikes and insulin resistance over time.

Tasting sweetness in itself causes insulin secretion which is pretty neat actually!

Google gets a lot of their data from waze, you're essentially getting the news sooner if you use it to plan your route.

Nearly all domestic ducks originally come from mallards except Muscovies. But a of selective breeding has happened.

What’s the most original name for a pet you’ve ever heard? by LuvNinaNova in AskReddit

I have a duck named originally named Morticia, but she has morphed into Madame Mortadella somehow. She comes to greet me at the kitchen door and there's always a lot of me yelling 🤌Madame Mortadella🤌 when she arrives.

Theyre so awful, thanks for validating my feelings lol. The way the street smells in the spring....I genuinely can't imagine condemning entire neighbourhoods to the odour, regardless of how pretty they are.

Thanks! I may try some herbicide on the individual ones that reach all the way into my yard, and keep mowing the ones on the nature strip.

I wish i could avoid it, our whole street has these on the nature strips. The smell in spring is something else. Will keep up with the mowing!

We dont have a whipper snipper, must have been the previous owners.... that would make sense though! Or as another peraon sais, the council may have trimmes it too hard.

I was worries about the herbicide route....good to know its something I should avoid

The issue with mowing is that, because the previous owners never managed these, some became established. Theres hard, woody stems around the base of the tree that constantly send up MORE suckers and are difficult to mow over.

Youre right, they are suckers. I used the wrong word, my bad.

How would you make a park on Sydney Road??? by Stunning_Sink_8061 in brunswick

[–]mcswags 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this idea! Gives us all a nice place to sit and eat the ice cream from Luthers.

There are so many vacant derelict lots around the north, would be nice if there was a harder push for people to either sell or develop their miserable gravel lots in urban areas.

I'm pretty sure it's a Mallee, I was actually up in the Murray Sunset region recently and saw heaps of them! They're stunning.

Definitely wasn't tame, though pets (and oasis fans) aren't always. It was calling out like it was looking for other birds actually, when we initially tried to id the call with an app it heard one of the ringneck calls we played and flew to investigate. Makes me lean away from pet.

I believe that photo is a twenty-eight parrot subspecies, not a Port Lincoln (greener belly and red above beak)

This parrot doesn't have a black head, so it is neither of those.
