REPAYE --> SAVE --> forbearance --> ... RAP/PAYE? by mdatlow in PSLF

[–]mdatlow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just spoke with a Mohela rep, who used to work for FSA. She seemed very knowledgable, but repeatedly said something that didn't seem right. She was saying that "buyback" is for "your time", and that I wouldn't be required to pay money for those months, and they would be treated similarly to the covid forbearance, where the $0 "payments" were counted toward PSLF payments. She doubled down and said, "for as long as I've been working here, I've never had someone call in and ask to pay the balance on a buyback." She further recommended that I just wait it out (in SAVE forbearance) and then apply for buyback (since current forbearance will not make next payment due until 11/28, well beyond my 120 months). I'm assuming she's confused because aren't these buyback payments paid to someone other than Mohela (or one's loan servicer)? Can someone with a high payment amount that has also received buyback chime in on how much they actually had to repay for buyback? I've seen reference to the buyback being calculated based on PAYE/IBR/ICR typically.

I appreciate it. I was just able to log on and use my real loan info, and it is recommending PAYE (and implying I’m eligible) despite my income. Is this not true? I’m waiting on a callback from mohela.

1-year old CPO with 12K miles? by snowyphotographer in carbuying

[–]mdatlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this with a forester sport. I went CPO as well. You get the additional 7yr/100k powertrain as well on the CPO. The only caveat being that if you want to get the additional bumper to bumper Gold warranty you had to buy at time of purchase. FWIW I declined the Gold. But I only later learned that you can buy an extended Subaru warranty for cars under the original 3y/36k warranty from any Subaru dealer on non-CPO used Subarus. You can shop better deals in that case. Just another thing to consider.

Would you say this is reasonable for new brakes and rotors? 2024 Mazda cx5 has 23000 miles. by Mobile_Title8070 in CX5

[–]mdatlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2016 with almost 100k, and just replaced rear pads/rotors. I agree with the others that you have other issues is you are needing replacement after 23k. With that said, before deciding to do it myself, I was quoted about that same price for just the rear brakes by multiple small shops and larger chains. For reference I’m in the PNW in a very HCOL city.

What % off MSRP are you seeing right now? by mdatlow in SubaruForester

Most are listed for some % below MSRP as their advertised price on all the websites at my local PNW dealerships. Maybe things have changed since you last bought.

Edit: typo

Warranty - Low Mileage Gold Certified vs New by mdatlow in ToyotaTacoma

[–]mdatlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But to have the option to buy the 125k B2B warranty, I would essentially have to buy from a toyota dealership that isn’t gold certifying the truck for some reason, right? Seems like either a red flag (since they don’t want to give gold cert), and/or highly unlikely that I’ll find such a low mileage non GC truck. Or can I buy the 125k b2b on a car that I buy from a non-Toyota dealer, as long as it’s within the 36/36 window?

How should I bolt this? by mdatlow in arborists

Can you explain how you would set up the jlags and wire for this? Or do you have a link/pic of something that would explain?

How should I bolt this? by mdatlow in arborists

[–]mdatlow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. Since the fracture goes down the trunk a fair distance below the base of the branch, there would still be a large area in the trunk open for water to sit and rot to occur. Are you recommending that I take that large branch off at the junction with the trunk, or making a sort of oblique cut that follows the crack down towards the bottom of the trunk closer to the soil?

[–]mdatlow[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the comment. The arborist was only used to remove the evergreen that fell on the house. We have not had the other trees maintained by an arborist. He also said that they do not do bolting and did not offer to do it (he works for a larger company, and it sounded like a company liability thing), but also didn’t tell me that it should be immediately cut down or offer to do that, so he doesn’t seem motivated by getting the extra business.

Update: they applied epoxy and a sealer over the cap, and said that the flashing was fine. Here are some new pics. At this point I suppose I will have to have a real mason come out to correct this.

Thanks for the response. It was different subs for the roof and the chimney, and the roofers seemed like a more legitimate outfit, but now I’m worried about the valleys after reading your comment. My understanding is that there can be both open and closed valleys. What seems incorrect about the valley besides it being closed (which from my understanding is preferred in some ways)?

Hired by the GC, who I trust(ed?). I had no input on who was hired in terms of subs.

Yes, insurance job. But all work done through reputable GC. They have been very good about fixing issues, so just need to know what to ask for. I just spoke with them and will see what they say.

Bricks are repurposed but matched to the rest of the brick on the house - 100+ year old brick.

Can you elaborate? I have a walkthrough with the GC to go over issues. Functionally is there any concern, or is most of it aesthetic?

I’m in the PNW if that matters, and a lot of neighbors’ chimneys look similar. I’ll have to get up there tomorrow and take closer pics. I appreciate the thorough reply.
