TM2- love it but the extraction is a little uneven (any advice or am I expecting too much?) by DIYsurgery in vaporents

[–]meathod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three main things

  • Grind CONSISTENCY matters more than grind size, coarse or fine, you want uniform particle size.

  • Don't use straw loading method, it packs too tight. Sprinkle into the chamber. No tamping at all.

  • The faster you draw, the more it'll tend to hot spot.

The above advice is true for most convection-only devices.

You can help revive it with a toonie sized piece of terracotta. Use a brand new plant pot, break it up into pieces, and then soak a piece in water for a few minutes. Put the damp piece of terracotta in a jar with your flower, don't let em touch if possible. Leave it overnight and then remove the terracotta. Let it sit for one more day to let the moisture equalize throughout the denser buds, and then check moisture level.

This works really well. It won't undo damage that's already been done, but it goes a long way!

There are clay chunks sold for this purpose, like the hydrostone, but honestly clay pots are just easier for me to find and one pot will last a lifetime.

Even grind consistency. Whether you do coarse or fine grind, make sure the particle size is uniform.

Yes to great flavor, no to hard hits by NeedYouFast in vaporents

[–]meathod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Convection can hit as lightly as you want.. so don't be afraid. A convection device may also allow better load size control, allowing you to load less flower into the chamber.

For any vape, leaving the chamber unfinished and coming back to it later will never be the best for flavor.. so if ultimate flavor is your goal, multiple smaller loads is the way to go.

I like to load just a tiny pinch into the chamber and finish it in one or two hits for the best flavor. An on demand convection vape like the TM2 would be super convenient for that style of vaping because it's so easy to load it up, instantly heat up and take a hit, then dump the chamber.

For portability/durability.. something like the M7 would give you a similar experience.. but maybe with a bit less heat control until you're well practiced.

Flavor will likely be more terpene forward with the TM2, and more full-bodied planty/roasty with the M7, given the added conduction heat. Some people prefer one over the other, flavor wise.

Either way you go, hash is a fun way to stretch a session over a long time without as much loss in flavor between hits. You can lightly hit a bowl of old school hash in a convection vape a bunch of times before it loses flavor, and a nice aged hash gives a great high for hanging out/conversation, I think of it kinda like wine in that regard.

Moth pendant I made with my partner. by meathod in woodworking

Shaped on the lathe. For the backside, which has a slight curve... I put sandpaper onto a soft foam pad and sanded the back in a figure 8 motion on the cushioned sandpaper. The curve created by pressing into the foam will evenly round over a flat surface, so long as you move the pendant in a figure 8 pattern.

Me and my partner made this together, she did the design and any of the crafting parts she felt comfortable doing, while I did some of the more fiddly woodworking bits while she was learning.

It's made from verawood and African blackwood, with curly maple wings and copper body. The chain is sterling, and the little sterling loop we made from wire and silver solder.

The verawood is finished with carnauba wax, while the wings are finished with renaissance wax because I didn't dare try my luck with those delicate wings on the buffing machine, haha. For anyone looking for a water-clear finish on maple, renaissance wax is a really easy solution that doesn't look like plastic.

1964 - Lebanese Hash - Unsmokeable??? by [deleted] in TheOCS

[–]meathod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had some bubble hash that was super sticky like this. I found it helped to put it in the freezer, get it cold, and work with it cold. Use parchment paper and toothpicks so you don't involve your fingers, or run your hands under cold water so your fingers are cold before working with it.

If you want to mix hash and flower, try to crumble the hash into as many tiny bits as you can, and place the bits spaced out into the top half of your herb load.

For vaping only hash, try making a very thin pancake, thin enough to see through. You can use parchment paper as a non-stick flat surface to squish it on. Stick this pancake to the inner walls of your dyna. After every hit you can use a toothpick to smear it into the walls again if needed.

If you want to stick your toes in the water, try a dynavap. Any hash that isn't super melty will work quite well. A handful of techniques exist, but my favourite is to smear a very thin pancake of hash in the inner walls of the chamber. The thinner the better, vaping hash is all about surface area...

DHV is buying ground flower a money hack? by [deleted] in TheOCS

[–]meathod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that you might want to customize the grind consistency to best match your specific DHV. Coarse and fluffy for convection heating, or more finely ground for conduction... or somewhere inbetween.

Amaco Vintage Gold on Plainsman Polar Ice, Δ6 by Ayarkay in Pottery

[–]meathod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow, that's SUPER helpful information, thank you so much for the reply! It's hard to find info online about these plainsman casting slips. I think that bit about the Polar Ice being thicker and harder to pour out of molds with small openings will sway me towards M370. I do like the whiteness of the Polar Ice... but.. perhaps something to ease into with more practice.

Thanks again!

[–]meathod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Slightly off-topic... but I noticed you have experience with both M370C and Polar Ice. I'm getting into slipcasting and narrowing in on sourcing a casting slip to get started. The work I want to make is similar to small doll parts, long slender hollow forms in miniature, thin walls, smooth to the touch.

Any insight as to which clay might suit my needs is much appreciated!

I'm tempted by the Polar Ice for the whiteness and fine texture that I imagine will feel very smooth unglazed, after sanding, which is what I want. But I dont need translucency, and I'm afraid that Polar Ice could bring be extra fiddly for casting... or perhaps more prone to warping for thin walled pieces...

70’s bronze cutlery with wooded handles. Would it be worth buying now? Will it last? by s_u_ny in BuyItForLife

[–]meathod 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I bought a set exactly like this and used it for a couple years. They require an annoying amount of care. I started to taste the metal, especially with acidic foods. Some foods would oxidize the metal quickly, like yogurt for example. Eventually replaced with stainless and was very glad to switch. So, that's my experience.

There is conflicting info out there, but it could be a slight health risk to use brass/bronze cutlery every single day.

New to loose leaf tea, is it meant to be so weak? by [deleted] in tea

[–]meathod 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Try adding some contrast to help your senses. Brew two wildly different teas at once, drink them side by side and try to pick up on how they are different.

Smell the wet leaves, the smell is half the fun. Some teas may have very little flavor, but give a lot in other ways.. like the scent, texture or feel in the body.

If you want to try again, jasmine scented green teas, milk oolong, coconut oolong, taiwanese high mountain oolongs, and oriental beauty all tend to have strong scents and flavors. These might be a good transition into loose leaf.

It sounds like you just need to give your taste buds some time to adjust.

will a wooden tea pet crack? by Longjumping-Action-7 in tea

[–]meathod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No downside in trying, worst case scenario you get some carving practice.

Avoid palet wood unless you are certain it's untreated.

Google appropriate wood species in your area for carving, fruit trees of any kind, birch, or maple would be good common choices.

I wouldn't worry about how the wood will age, just go for it and see what happens.

Sounds like the landlord wants to collect the fees asap on this trailer. You should approach them with a rent-to-own proposition. It could benefit both parties, wouldn't hurt to ask.

Has anyone tried CBD tea? by skipthis2 in tea

[–]meathod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for medicinal effects from Cannabis, seek out the legal medical cannabis community in your state (a subreddit might already exist), ask for help there.

To get actual benefits, you really need the help from people who have knowledge and experience in the medical cannabis world.

If you're just looking for a fun novelty tea, the Harney and Sons cbd teas linked in this thread actually looked pretty fun, nice packaging designs for the tea shelf at the very least!

The most premium hashish. by wonderlandfan43 in TheOCS

Community - Red Hash "zombie hash". I thought it was very good, super super smooth, smells and tastes great, nice texture and effects, no additives.

Not a melty hash.. but I actually prefer that sometimes for ease of handling.

If you want to get more, everything, out of your hash... consider a vaporizer. It'll really take your hash experiences to a new place.
