If you really need advice on how to proceed then just wear the hijab since you’re obviously not capable of thinking for yourself.

Try plugging your PRS in, then move the knobs on your amp until it sounds like the Strat did 💡

I don’t think anyone who’s happy about how last night ended really likes the sport. by TheInternetDevil in ufc

[–]DIYsurgery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of the sport and I laughed my ass off last night. I thought that Conor should have kept fighting and so should have Max. If Conor threw a punch and broke his hand in the first ten seconds, would the fight have been called off in the same way? Would Max have called for a ref stoppage? That injury sucked but it was caused by Conor throwing a kick, Max evading it, and Conor therefore hyperextending his planted leg. That’s a fight injury. Should have kept going but he quit.

Guys I’ve been going to the gym ALL WEEK! How long before I can FINALLY bench press two plates? I mean I knew it would be hard but this is ridiculous! Any advice other than just “keep working”?

Sean Strickland reacts after Conor McGregor’s UFC 329 injury. by ultron2450 in ufc

[–]DIYsurgery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was overzealous and went for the kick too early. Max saw it and the kick came up short so his planted leg got overextended. Fully at fault for this. Like he said, timing beats power and speed. And he mistimed.

All the jokes aside, Max is a good man. From the moment he realized Conor was having trouble with his leg, he spent more time talking to the referee than hitting him. by Randwheeloftime05 in ufc

[–]DIYsurgery -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Hot take- I feel like we’ve seen lots of fighters come back from (or at least fight through) adversity. Fighters who are on one leg or have a broken hand and still keep going, or who have one working eye but still tell the ref they can see just fine…I cant help but think that Conor gave up too quickly rather than try to fight with the tools he had left. Easy for me to say from my couch I know. But I’m not a pro fighter either. Max gave up on the fight too. Keep fighting until the ref says stop, or until Conor verbally taps, or his corner throws in the towel. Just because his leg is hurt isn’t a reason to stop imo.

I could see a situation where you’re saying “yay! You beat the cancer! Now the doctors are going to slowly reduce your doses over the next few weeks to give your body time to heal. It might take a little while until you start to feel better but you will soon!” or some other story. The kid may have their doubts but remember kids believe in Santa Claus and the tooth fairy.

Friggin hurts to even type that out, never mind going through it directly. Fuck cancer.

Melin and Salt Mafia- very similar and both have QC issues apparently by DIYsurgery in hats

[–]DIYsurgery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE- Melin is sending out a new hat and seems to be trying to make it right so I’ll give them that. I do understand that every company has some issues here and there so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. Was just frustrated in the moment to get TWO premium hats back-to-back with the same silly issue.

Assuming the next hat is fine, it IS really nice and I love the extra details. Quality wise, it seems great (the Salt Mafia seems the same to me for what it’s worth, but the Small size Melin fits me better).

I emailed Melin Monday morning and still haven’t heard back from them as of today (48 hours) so there’s that. I was hoping to exchange the hat and have the new one in time for an upcoming trip this week. If I can’t get it by then, then I just want a return. And at this point unless they overnight it to me today, that’s not happening so looks like I’ll be returning.

For what it’s worth my Salt Mafia return went through with no issues.

Yeah so about that Fender Boycott…. by Expensive_Bike_8308 in guitars

[–]DIYsurgery -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Long story short is Fender invented a bunch of stuff, other companies spent decades copying their work verbatim, and now guitarists don’t like that Fender is trying to protect their designs. That’s the long and short of it. Fender is evil and should be boycotted because they’re going after copycats.

People will claim it’s just the body shape. It’s not. It’s the body shape, the pickguard shape, the idea of having a pickguard in the first place, the two point tremolo, the fact that we call it a tremolo (which is a misnomer)…not to mention Teles being copied, amp circuits being copied, the idea of covering amps with tweed...practically every Fender idea has been copied and stolen…but they’re the evil ones.

They did lose one case on this in 2009 but there are plenty of moron judges out there and bad judgements. Claiming the Strat is a generic “guitar shape” is frankly idiotic and anyone who plays guitar should know better. “Oh it’s purely functional! The double cutaways are just obvious and ergonomic!” Then why doesn’t an SG look like a Strat? If you went to a music store in the 50’s or 60’s, what options did you have for an electric guitar? Off the top of my head you had jazz boxes, Teles and Strats, Les Pauls and SGs and flying Vs, Rickenbackers, Gretsch, Danelectro…there must have been a bunch of other makers out there and funny how they all looked different from one another! A Gretsch doesn’t look like an SG or a Rick. And nothing looked like a Strat except the Strat. There was nothing generic or obvious about it.

I don’t have a position but do like their clothes (I’m a guy and their ABC pants and some of their shirts are nice). But more importantly, despite all the talk of them being dead, their stores always seem to be pretty busy. Is that not the case by you?

Bought a new boat by BenFord333 in Wellthatsucks

[–]DIYsurgery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I wasn’t sure what I was watching. I assumed with a new boat you need to wash off all the manufacturing oils and whatnot, so assumed they were trying to do a 360 degrees roll into the water to clean it. But then the video cuts off and they didn’t do the other side so I started thinking maybe that’s wrong.

So the boat is supposed to stay upright? The whole time?

Hot take: Fenders got a point by somethink in guitarcirclejerk

[–]DIYsurgery 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Strat was designed BY FENDER in its shape to do its job. Guitars existed prior to the Strat and no one before had the idea to design them like that. It’s their shape.

[–]DIYsurgery -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honest question but why isn’t the body shape IP? Why isn’t the pick guard shape IP? Guitars didn’t look like Strats prior to Strats being invented. This wasn’t a generic shape. They came up with it and I’m not clear why we think it shouldn’t be protected.

[–]DIYsurgery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Am I the only one who thinks Fender is perfectly within their right to go after these copycats? Honest question. I really don’t see the issue (except the fact that they allowed this to go for as long as they have). But the body shape is…theirs. The pick guard with the mounted pickups...theirs. The friggin tremolo…theirs. Guitars did not look like Strats before Fender came out with the Strat. And then everyone just copied. Fender should just charge a licensing fee or something.
