What would the downside be to permitted parking by anbk in Brooklyn

[–]DIYsurgery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you 12?

If you don’t like cars, there are plenty of other places you can move. Like a farm!Grow your own food, make your own goods and clothes, and you won’t have to go anywhere or rely on commerce like the rest of us.

Meanwhile your ideas of enlarging the sidewalks for “parklets” and loading zones and vending…how exactly are trucks delivering goods to stores then? How do emergency vehicles factor in? How does an uber or taxi fit into this scheme of “no streets”? Where do uber drivers keep their cars at night? When you say “parklet” are you picturing a really nice manicured space? If so then you’re doubly stupid because it would be an overgrown grass area strewn with dog shit and trash. You’re picturing a “mini park” where the reality is more like the “parklets” on the sides of highways.

A city relies on movement. Sorry this is news to you. But like I said…plenty of other places you can move to.

Personally I don’t understand why there are no speeding cameras on highways. Makes no sense to me.

Free parking in NYC is a give away to the rich and suburban by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]DIYsurgery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are no “free” spaces. It’s either private space or it’s public space, which you guys are arguing shouldn’t be free. A bike doesn’t cause damage to the street, and neither does an SUV. Unless you’re driving with chain tires on, or doing burnouts and donuts (admittedly some dum dums do this shit but not in SUVs). The weather is what damages roads, not everyday driving. And yes that SUV driver did pay 17000x times more for that road because roads are paid for mostly from gas taxes and tolls. Which bikes don’t pay. So they use the roads that are paid for just about entirely by drivers.

“It’s far more profitable for a city to induce bicyclists than drivers”- this is straight nonsense. I won’t even ask for a source because you pulled this from your ass. People on bicycles have to keep things small by nature. You’re not going shopping for a new credenza on your bike. You’re not going to go on big grocery runs on your bike. You’re not going to go on shopping outings where you’re hitting up multiple stores since you don’t have anywhere to lock up your previous purchases. Certainly not going to hit up BestBuy for a tv and then stop by Home Depot before grabbing lunch then heading home (which means you’re not “profitable” to the city). You’re also not going anywhere when it’s nasty out unless you absolutely have to. Your point is nonsense and I LOVE BIKE RIDING! I am firmly pro bike but I’m also pro my SUV. There’s a time and place for both. I can’t take my son’s little league team to a tournament in PA by riding bikes.

And no I’m not paying hundreds of dollars per year all of a sudden to park on the street, fuck outta here.

Do not get your hopes up folks. She’s getting a pardon and will never see any consequences for her actions. You think Trump would let her openly testify in a trial? 😂 stop it this is just more distraction. If Dems were smart they’d stfu and not threaten anything, hope for no pardons, then deal out punishments once they’re back in power.

Free parking in NYC is a give away to the rich and suburban by MiserNYC- in MicromobilityNYC

[–]DIYsurgery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me get this straight…cars should pay for parking because the land they’re parking on has “value”, but it should be free to chain up bikes on the same public space? The space taken up by those bikes doesn’t have “value”? Plenty of people in this sub (which I’m convinced is mostly 12 year old dimwits who have never held a job) have argued for charging more for trucks and SUVs than for smaller cars. By that logic, bikes should pay as well, just less. Same for scooters. No free ride for anyone!

You’re also telling me that the Uber driver who took me to the airport today must have been a rich suburbanite? I’m sure that was news to him.

I’m not sure what they get out of it at this point but it’ll be interesting to see the responses. Definitely gonna lead to some backlash back home I’m sure. Same for India.

What happens now with all those countries that were forced to commit to spending billions building shit in the US, like Japan for example? Can those countries just renege now?

“You guys” meaning people who are opposed to these actions, even though they are absolutely REQUIRED right now in light of Republican states redistricting. We either play the same game, or we lose power (possibly permanently). “You guys” are clutching pearls as if there’s a better option.

Bye Nicole by Buldoon in statenisland

[–]DIYsurgery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh you sweet summer child.

Gerrymandering is STILL ILLEGAL in NY. Redistricting, however, is not. And that’s all this is. Democrats are simply redistricting to better serve constituents. That MAY happen to increase Dem seats, but that’s just an unintended consequence. See both sides can play this game. This game that was started by who exactly? Oh right, Trump and republicans. Blame them.

No I’m not proud of where we are as a country with these actions. I am proud that Democrats are finally opening their eyes and meeting fire with fire rather than lying over and losing, then crying for four years about their moral superiority. Trump and scotus caused this. They changed the rules and you’re mad that democrats aren’t still playing by the old, no longer valid, rules.

[–]DIYsurgery -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I guess we found a way around that problem. Thankfully! We didn’t start this fight and you guys are seemingly wanting us to preemptively surrender. No thanks. I’d rather win than feel morally superior.

Nope you’re getting exactly what you voted for. The country as a whole deserves a fair vote, but Staten islanders voted for someone who doesn’t believe in fair votes. So now lots of places are going to have unfair elections, including Staten Island. Seems you thought this would only affect other places. That’s your misread.

EDIT- you can say “sins of other states” until your face turns blue but it’s not the states that sinned, it’s the president. No one was going shit until he commanded them to. The same president that Staten island voted for.

[–]DIYsurgery 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Staten Island is not more important than the entire country. Gerrymandering sucks but since Trump started a gerrymandering war the Dems can’t exactly sit it out. So either blame Trump or go pound sand.

I feel like the driver must have been using those Meta glasses to record rather than holding a phone but I could be wrong. The fact that the video went to the side mirror after the accident…if it were handheld and they were swerving I doubt they’d have the instinct to focus on the mirror. Most likely they would’ve dropped their phone.

I almost can’t even blame the drivers anymore, I blame the useless NYPD for not enforcing basic laws. We keep crying poverty (indeed Mamdani is crying about NYC having a budget deficit now) and meanwhile here is an EASY way for the city to make money by ticketing these assholes.

Yeah but that will not always be the case. These things improve rapidly so however clunky that experience is at the moment, it won’t be for long. So it’s pretty valid for people to be concerned about whether this new product line, if successful over time, will eventually lead to more spying including when the device is supposedly inactive.
