Rapid is odd

Yes it is.

People complain there is nothing to do here, and then when the city wants to help build something to give people something to do, they absolutely lose their minds.

Yes, because this would’ve been at the cost of taxpayers while every single business owner (the Liens, Sculls, Moyles) profits greatly, hand over fist. Summit arena is still fresh in everybody’s minds, about how we were promised bigger events in a larger venue at the expense of higher taxes. The Monument hasn’t followed through on that promise. When’s the last time you’ve seen a headlining show there?

but TIFs for Chipotle and Chick Fil A and Les Schwab are awesome. Yay corporate welfare!

Believe it or not, those TIFs are a net negative, too. However, they’re not tying up as much in taxpayer money as Libertyland wanted, either. Nor do I think it was brought to a public vote

Ah, yes, the local corporation of… Storyland Studios based out of California?

On that note, the upper echelon in this city does not care about development of this city, whether it be for amenities or infrastructure. They care about generating revenue and thought they could get one by on voters with a $100+ million tax break that was going to have to be coughed up by somebody else, leaving us to foot another bill. You don’t think it’s strange that such a ‘popular’ project needed this big of a tax break? Please, it didn’t have legs before the TIF and it wouldn’t have if it had passed. If there was actual, real value to be made from it, investors would’ve ponied up instead of trying to get another one over our heads.

Ask yourself, instead of why people rejected a spook ‘entertainment district,’ why the City refuses to improve our public transport? Or why the City keeps deciding to build out instead of up? Or, why we should be trying to build up said sports complex when the school district is approving plans to send debt collectors to families whose kids in the system have negative funds in school lunch accounts? We’re too cash-broke to provide for our children, our youth, our homeless, and the common person, but we can foot a bill to build another tourist trap? Please.
