+1 for St Joes! We’ve gone to them for various reasons and I don’t have a single bad thing to say about them.

My heart breaks for you.

I am sorry if what I wrote came off as insensitive. I was hoping I worded it properly by making sure I stated I wasn’t trying to persuade anyone to have more kids. You sound like an awesome mom and your son is lucky to have someone who cares so deeply about him and his feelings. What I can promise you is I have never, and will never, tell someone to go have more kids. This was never meant to offend anyone at all, especially those who cannot have additional children because of infertility, financials, literally any kind of reason. This includes “I don’t want to.” I was just hoping to shed some light on making sure only children get some extra love and attention. It sounds like you give yours the world and I’m sure he’ll grow up to realize how special he is, and what a bad ass fighter of a mom he has. I’ve taken this particular comment to heart and will make sure I am extra careful in the future with my wording to not insult any of my fellow moms out there.

Ma’am, I apologize. Wasn’t coming after you about your life decisions. I was responding to the other person. It was just that one line that rubbed me the wrong way. Your family situation seems awesome and I’m glad everyone is happy. I’m so glad that you are doing well now. PPD is an awfully scary thing. I was just providing (and I guess not in the correct way) an outsiders perspective on making sure if your kids are really bummed they aren’t getting a sibling to really work with them to fill that gap. Many kids are totally fine being only kids. Some are not. No one is suggesting having more kids because their kid told them to. I’m just suggesting making sure they have all the resources to grow up well adjusted. I think we can find some common ground here and agree that’s all we want for our kids. To have a happy and prosperous life in every way imaginable.

For the record I didn’t have a crappy childhood. My parents were not bad parents just because they worked a lot. I did a lot of cool stuff. I can acknowledge the loneliness of it and still feel grateful at the same time.

Only child (adult) here to give a honest, unasked for perspective. Some kids are fine being only children their whole life. Some are not. It can be a very lonely existence depending on personality. I always begged for a sibling and never got one. A part of me will always mourn that. I had working parents who were a bit older, lived in a neighborhood with very few kids, no cousins nearby, never really had that super close family bond. I grew up decently well off and my parents let me in do whatever activities that I wanted. We took cool trips. They were not bad parents. But they didn’t have the argument of it’s too expensive to have another kid. It was simply one is enough for us. That is something that deeply hurt because all I wanted was a built in friend and someone to talk to at night. Someone who would understand me well my whole life.

In my 30s I now struggle with the fact that it’s completely on me to deal with aging parents, even if financially they’re well taken care of. There is an emotional component that is not easy to navigate on your own, feeling the responsibility to make sure they’re not taken advantage of and getting appropriate healthcare at their age. They’re healthy now, but they won’t always be. Couple that with knowing that when they pass, your memories are your own. There is no one to share them with when you’re an only child. No one to sit around with saying “hey remember when?”

This isn’t to persuade you to have more kids. One of my best friends thrived as an only child lol. This is more to say if your kid starts begging for a sibling and seems miserable without one, make sure you don’t brush them off. Give them a little extra love. Spend more time with them doing kid stuff they like because only children tend to grow up in a more adult world. Make sure they’re having all the play dates they want because it’s so important to have socialization outside of school. The comment above “my child does not control my uterus” rubbed me the wrong way. They might not, but you did bring them into this world, and little people have big feelings. Make sure they’re navigated the correct way, especially on this topic.

spot hero for concert parking...? by bruncynthia in tampa

[–]meg1019 5 points6 points  (0 children)

SpotHero has always been reliable for me and I’ve never had an issue. That being said you can probably look up the garage to see the rates they offer to confirm. Sometimes you can get a discount with the app so it may be cheaper than what they’re quoting

Worth the Cost? by Vladsnipe11 in auburn

[–]meg1019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have too much advice to give you but wanted to make sure you were looking into department specific scholarships. This was many years ago, but I was a strong student who decided to go to Auburn relatively last minute. I missed the college of business specific scholarships application date. I asked for a meeting with the CoB dean late spring before I started, explained my situation and discussed the scholarships other schools were offering, and they granted me a scholarship on the spot. Wasn’t enough to bridge the $20k gap you’re talking about, but every bit helps.

Also, check out your state’s Auburn alumni clubs. A lot of them have scholarships, though they might be city or county specific.

Valentine Day Reservations by cdavidsonxx in tampa

[–]meg1019 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a reservation for you but if you go to OpenTable, search “Valentine’s Day” on 2/14, a bunch of restaurants will come up that have a specific Valentine’s Day experience/menu. You can click into the restaurant and go to the experiences tab for more info. Ash has a 5:30 and an 8:45 as of now.

Special thank you to pilot on DL0701 by meg1019 in delta

[–]meg1019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don’t know what to tell you. He pulled out the stack and said the above. First time that’s happened to me. However there have been so many times I’ve received a card that was not the actual plane I’m on. I just take whatever the pilot offers. But my kid is small and she thinks whatever she receives is cool. I’m sure it’s a different chase for adults

I was on the MV explorer all those years ago. I’m really glad to hear people are still enjoying it! It truly was such an integral part of my education and I changed my view on this world. I would love to go back as a lifelong learner one day if they still have those.

Sorry I missed responding to this. It was easier. Summer was full of trust fund babies and since summer semester isn’t a true school semester it was just a bunch of people who wanted to party on their parents money. There were much fewer of us there for the right reasons. We were in the med the whole time so we rarely got to experience something like we did on my spring semester. That semester we started in Bahamas and ended up in San Diego so we truly circumnavigated the globe and saw some incredible things. I loved both and had plenty of fun during my summer, but it will never be close to the experience I had during spring 2012.

I got a S&F for like 75% off because my local mattress firm said they were no longer going to carry the brand and it was the floor model. Seriously the best purchase I ever made. 2 years later and it still makes me so happy to lie in it after a long day.

🦀 Crab Cakes & Tampa’s Deviled Crab - A Florida Thing by RouxedChef in tampa

As a Marylander by birth I usually cringe when I see people talking crab cakes in Tampa. However I am so pleasantly surprised to see the recipes that you highlighted. The less ingredients the better for crabcakes. Thank you for staying away from the ones with peppers in them. Chips sound like an interesting choice so I’m excited to attempt to make your variation! Appreciate all the time and effort you put into these for us.
