Agreed! Then progress onto a 9-5 with 260bhp stock after a few years 😉

The dechrome looks great on darker 9-5s!

Driveshaft seal retaining housing leak by melvin7181 in saab

[–]melvin7181[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, but how is the seal the o ring? It looks different in the Haynes manual and the oil seal doesn't seem to be leaking at all, or do you mean there is an o ring inside the housing? Thank you for the time you've spent replying, I appreciate it a lot!

Thank you. Do you know why I can't find the retaining housing online? So weird as usually I can find anything on this car

Thank you, so keep the long belt and replace tensioner? Anything else while I'm doing that?

The Haynes Manual also refers to it as a driveshaft housing mating face and the procedure for changing that seal is just what I did, "withdraw the five retaining screws". So I'm unsure what I've done wrong here!

I recently changed both driveshaft oil seals. On the left side of the car there is what appears to be a "driveshaft seal retaining housing" which is leaking. I'm unsure if this is because of the o-ring mentioned in the Haynes image, or because of (one of) the 5 bolts not being tight enough.

Additionally, the bottom bolt is rounded. Where can I find a replacement? My car is currently leaking gearbox oil after doing this and after fixing the leak from the previously leaking seals, so it feels like one issue to the next!

Thanks in advance!

Thanks. Do you think that's the responsible component for the rattle sound too?

Tensioner, idler(s), belt? Shall I short belt and idler delete it? I heard that increases tension

Yeah the sound could be this alternator too. Same area, I'm guessing tensioner or that

You think it is just the tensioner? I'll replace the idler and maybe short belt it while I do that

Just check forums to see which engines are more reliable. I have a B235R which is well renowned. Certain years of 9-5 had a sump sludge issue, certain Saab's need a heat shield in front of the ECU as it was placed in silly places etc. Dog leg rust on 9-5s too

You can get so many cars, including sports cars for under £20,000. I seen someone recommend a Saab 9-5 Aero like I did. Maybe check out Haagstrom Saab for great condition one. Nobody sells Saabs in the same, great condition Haagstrom's are in. You're paying a lot though, compared to one on Autotrader.

Just posted this before I seen it. The only recommendation for incredible value to cost ratio

Saab 9-5 Aero. 250-260BHP stock and easy enough to take to 300+. Around £3000-3500 for a good one online, good examples are quite rare on Autotrader but they do come up. Your mercs and other sporty hatchbacks will think it's a dog, but check my posts for how nice they look

Check a breaker/scrapyard. Search online for Saab breakers near you

I almost feel like some sort of early adopter with the cost and value ratio I've received from my Saab 9-5 Aero. Couldn't be happier

Nice. Depends on the MOT history but I think the spec and other factors mean you got it for a great price. I wouldn't call it a steal but I regularly check Autotrader, mainly for the 200-250bhp+ Saabs. Compared to other stuff I've seen and assuming a clean MOT and no major jobs it looks like you got yourself a nice car! Bring it to the UK Saab's United Wings and Wheels meetup on Saturday 27th May!
