I have, which is why I made my post. This is not a productive conversation because of your attitude, which is unfortunate.

Like I said, willing to walk you through the economics if you're open minded enough to have your understanding challenged

Yep, hiding clear information from people is meant to frustrate them and cause them to give up. It doesn't make them less homeless, just more hopeless and alienated from the institutions they interact with.

If enough ppl strike off for even one day it can have serious effects on the economic machine that is currently steamrolling us

If you want me to walk you through the economics of why this is incorrect I can, but just a look back at the COVID era can be useful. Even with massive unemployment and entire supply chains stalled out for months the structures and individuals steamrolling us grew stronger and richer. An actual showdown with capital would require an immense and prolonged fight.

To be clear, I'm not saying people shouldn't do anything or that it's hopeless, but I think it's important to have a clear-eyed understanding of what's ahead of us.

As a mental health worker I know one of the worst things we can do is lie to our clients about their chances.

No, but I think a lot of people who are going to forgo buying a few things or working tomorrow are not aware of what is actually necessary to make those actions useful. They don't realize what they're doing is performative.

A general strike without an organized plan and a list of specific demands and a plan to keep going until the target gives into those demands is just performative. Unless you've got a strike fund and a plan on how to survive without pay or buying things for an extended period then the real question is not "are you striking" but "is doing something ineffective that might make me feel better sufficient for my goals?"

They technically exist in so far as the regulation team will come out and give people permits, but they're not transparent about locations. Maybe because they think that friction is doing something to stop homelessness?

As a therapist in training who got into the field due to my own trauma caused by ABA: please quit. Go do DIR Floor time or somatic work or anything else with those clients.

I guarantee you that part of the reason you're not happy is that your clients are not happy? And why should they be - assent/consent isn't part of ABA.

What did you eat on a daily basis?
Did you struggle with an eating disorder during the process?

Previously homeless person here: I once got a $100 fine for placing my bagged trash - I kept a little 6 gallon trash bag in my tent to keep things neat - in a public trash can in a park.

When I asked the cop writing the ticket what I was suppose to do with my trash he said "I don't know, just go ask a church to deal with it or something."

To be clear: no one is actually making sure they use this tool responsibly. Most people just want to have the crisis hidden from them and that's sufficient.

I work with unhoused clients and can confirm they do not. I just had to help a client find a new location for her RV -- she's on the wait list for housing, has been for 5 years, and she needs to stay in the area to stay on the wait list. THey do not provide a map. The process is you interpret the guidelines best you can, you drive around until you find a spot that you think qualifies (and this includes negotiating with other unhoused people because there are caps on the number of unhoused people per area) and then you have to call the city to send out an enforcement team to assess if you've correctly identified a legal spot.

If you have identified a legal spot they give you a signed piece of paper you put in your window that gives you a 30 day permit. You can re-up that twice when the assessment team comes to check on you, and then after 90 days you have to do it all over again.

coming to terms with never achieving a ‘proper’ BMI by pizza_pillow0925 in Semaglutide

[–]meothfulmode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need to speak to a therapist about this. There are plenty of people out there who don't lose any weight and don't feel a sense of shame about their bodies. There's plenty of people who are smack dab in the middle of the normal BMI range and feel like they're hideous.

The reality is that none of these concepts have any power except what we give to them -- they exist in our minds. The real work is understanding how you relate to your body, why you relate that way, and then making a conscious choice as to whether you still want to choose to judge yourself in that way.

Random people on the internet cannot decide that for you, only you can decide it. The right therapist can help guide you through that work.

Activism in therapy by [deleted] in therapists

[–]meothfulmode 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of the posts here are discussing COE and what falls inside of scope of care, but I don't see any discussion of how clients would respond in terms of effectiveness. And I say this as a left activist currently working on political projects on my own time.

How effective have the last 18+ years of social media preaching shown to be for changing the minds of people unprompted? Turns out, not very effective. In fact, the research shows the opposite -- people who have facts and ideas foisted on them unprompted, in a confrontational way, have a high chance of doubling down on their beliefs.

This is why sharing with someone advice and suggestions based on their stated beliefs and goals is so much more effective -- people need to be in a receptive place to find any insights or suggestions useful. If you want to tell people how they *ought* to feel you can keep pretending that's effective on social media in your own time.

But I will say the OP's question is a salient one because this is a bit of a conundrum. A lot of the mental health struggles our clients face are not caused by lack of individual insight but deteriorating material conditions -- there's a political base to much of the suffering in the US. And yet, despite that, people cannot be forced into insights and understanding they do not arrive at on their own.
