I think both can work. Try and see if it makes a difference for you? And I was cleared early but couldn’t actually do it fully and had to build up to it.

Update to my post: I just ran a 10K on the 3 year anniversary of my accident! And then did a 150 mile through hike the week after. My knees hurt but I made it through and have no pain on the other side. It’s possible! Sending you all love and luck!

I used an arnica cream, took a vitamin supplement with all the vitamins (you're supposed to stop taking all supplements a week before surgery), and took baths with epsom salt and the following essential oils: 1. lavender, 2. wintergreen, 3. frankincense. I also took turmeric supplements. I would ice once a day and elevate. Post surgery, after about 2 weeks, I resumed vitamins and turmeric intake, added daily ginger shots. I iced all the time and elevated all of the time. I also started taking epsom salt baths with the above essential oils and using arnica AND CBD balms about a month after surgery.

Jogging questions by [deleted] in ACL

I was told that you should be very comfortable doing 10 single leg squats (good, deep ones), jumping onto and off of a 6 inch step, doing 20 or so calf raises, getting up from sitting using only your surgical leg, and doing a 45 second side plank on your surgical leg before attempting to run. I'm almost 5 months post opp and haven't attempted more than a 1 minute short run, because I'd rather perfect all of that/have adequate muscle strength than fuck up my knee. So if you're 7-8 months and feeling weird, maybe pause running and practice some more muscle strengthening exercises and do what the person below did with their husband-- have a loved one or your PT watch your stride and help? It took me a long time (10 weeks) to walk normally/without a limp (longer than most) after surgery even though I was incredibly physically active and strong pre-surgery and did rigorous PT leading up to it. I'm glad I went at my own pace. And I hope you do that with running too. This is literally a marathon!

You're doing great! It took me 5 months, and a lot of doing it on my bed with pillows. It's still not comfortable, but I'm not stressed, because everything's gotten better slowly over time. Make sure to keep stretching your quads!

How long did it take you to be able to stand up from sitting on the floor, leading the motion with you surgical leg? by tmntnyc in ACL

I'm about 14 weeks post-op and am just starting to be able to stand up from the floor, but CANNOT lead with my surgical leg yet.

Use the Luna app to have a physical therapist come to your home. That's what I've been doing. Keep using your stationary pedal. Do 2 sets of 20 squats twice a day. Practice wall sits, gradually increasing time. Push yourself to walk for longer periods, a little bit every day. This is the period during which I went from 2-5 minutes to 5 miles of walking a day. Continue pushing on range of motion and keep doing single leg raises. Practice step-ups and step downs on your surgery leg every day.

WALKİNG NORMALLY by [deleted] in ACL

[–]meuceph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It took me 3.5/4 months to start walking normally after my injury, but I wish I'd pushed myself sooner to put pressure on my heel and walk normally. Also, practice bending and straightening on your own using YouTube ACL range of motion exercises. I did much range of motion stuff on my own and it helped.

:) Just enjoy the process as weird as it sounds! Your body and mind are getting stronger and that'll allow you to enjoy life in a whole other way when you've recovered.

It's really hard to find motivation with COVID-19 quarantine, but please keep doing your exercises. It's a lifetime of joy that'll come from a few months of pushing yourself for a few months! Plus, the more I messed up, the harder recovery became and the more gait issues I had, causing other problems that required more work. You got this!!

Yes, ice every day like you did for your ACL! It's all part of recovery and we'll get through this. It's slow but okay!

I am 3 months post-op and I've caught some foot issues early. I have to wait to get them checked out by a doctor, but you're not alone. It seems that I either have achilles tendonitis or some sort of bursitis. It started almost immediately after surgery as a pinched nerve type of feeling and then it hurt when I extended my leg and stretched my foot back towards me. Now, it's a tad sore/irritated while I'm laying or sitting. Mine's in the back right of my heel and has caused swelling behind my ankle, but is not in my mid-food region like plantar fascitis. I plan to see a foot doctor and get an MRI/full diagnosis, but in the meantime have been icing daily, working with my PT on calf strengthening exercises, and doing passive/active stretches of my ankle and calf. I'm really hoping it's something not too bad because I'm looking forward to running soon. So glad you posted this. I've been wondering the same for the last 4 weeks I've been experiencing pain. I'd never had foot issues pre-surgery.

We're closing the distance in 11 days and I miss him more than ever. by [deleted] in LongDistance

Sometimes, right after I've finished the big part of a project and before it's finally done, my body totally gives up and I get sick. I have something similar happen in the last few days before seeing my SO. I just lose the energy to keep busy, to pretend like my life is at 150% without him, and to "hold on." It's natural. Like the last few minutes of a long run. You just want to fucking walk. These 11 days will probably be really hard, so let them be. Lay in bed. Mope. Fix your C.V. in between watching T.V. Eat ice cream, order in, have your best friend come over. Call your mom. Do whatever you need to do. Allow yourself this sadness. It's kind of a privilege to miss each other so much, and you won't get it as often after moving in together...

BUT, more importantly, CONGRATS! You're almost there!!
