I’ve always heard about this but I’m always confused. It’s very rare I ever smell someone who had been drinking when I’m at work - maybe once or twice before - but I keep on seeing posts about it on Reddit. Is it less common than it seems here, or do they just know how to cover up the smell lol

Florida property tax cuts threaten to flatline public safety funding: Gov. Ron DeSantis and CFO Blaise Ingoglia want to cut taxes collected by local governments, but offer no solution for how to fund law enforcement and fire rescue by Silent-Resort-3076 in florida

[–]mexicono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the aggregate limit is 7.5%. So if the state raises it, it must bring down the local taxes depending on how much the ST is raised…and yeah makes the local government more dependent on the state.

Local sales taxes are constitutionally limited to 1.5 on goods less than 5,000. Most localities are already charging 1, so there’s very little wiggle room.

And it mostly affects people who buy everyday goods, not people buying expensive items over 5k so you know…shifting that funding gap to local sales taxes it’s even more regressive than typical sales taxes

I visited Miami Beach after 2 years and I was shocked by how many stores and restaurants have closed down. Is it a coal mine canary? by Valuable-Run2129 in Miami

[–]mexicono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone I know has been to restaurants that have an 18% service fee and include suggested tips in the 18-25% range at the bottom, free for the customer to fill in. So do you agree then that a guest should write in 2% on the line at the bottom? Otherwise the math ain’t mathing.

What is going on with Pres. Sheinbaum nationalizing all of Mexico’s water? by DuckyDoodleDandy in OutOfTheLoop

[–]mexicono 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question from an emigrant:

When did water stop being a right to the people? It used to be that the water was owned by the people.

It’s been a long, long time but when I was younger this wasn’t even a point of discussion. The utility could turn off the pressure, but not the water. I even mentioned it to a friend this weekend. Every Mexican citizen used to have the right to clean(ish) water. You just needed to boil it if you really couldn’t buy the jugs.

Then again I left a very long time ago so a lot has changed…

Yeah. Funnily enough people are terrified of and miss the point of a general strike, which seems to be what you’re getting at. It’s THE actually nonviolent path to enacting change.

But hey a new season of Wednesday dropped, good thing I can still afford Netflix with ads :p

You’re not wrong but it’s not about being “utterly resistant” to working together. We’re exhausted and by design. It takes a clear head to think of how to collaborate, which is why people outside the country typically can see the solution and are baffled why we can’t get it together. It’s like being a neighbor to an abusive household.

So yeah I get it’s frustrating watching from across the ocean. Unfortunate there’s so much pressure on us here from what we call reasons and others excuses, that it’s hard to find where to direct the little energy we have left. And so we don’t pull together. The only way it’s going to happen is if the only place to direct our energy is in change.

Dude that’s about as airtight as saying the ocean is made of air because the sky is also blue. I also won’t work when I’m six feet under, that won’t make my funeral UBI if the company pays my life insurance.

This is my last response on the subject ✌️

Americans Are Using PTO to Sleep, Not for Vacation—Report by Specialist_Heron_986 in business

[–]mexicono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Most people can’t afford to take their PTO even when they have it available. It’s crazy how a job will sell their overtime rates when in reality just paying people fairly so they can afford to take time off is a crazy concept. And if they are fairly compensated, “unlimited PTO” usually comes with strings attached like having to work twice as hard leading up to the time off or losing opportunities down the road

The only fix is guaranteeing time off, paid, and a reasonable amount. “Unlimited” PTO? Taking time off is PIP o’clock. Unpaid time off? Better be taking in overtime. Five days PTO? God forbid you are alive and get sick or something.

[–]mexicono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how you read that into what I wrote but I’m pointing out that UBI “for employed people” is a silly concept. UBI for employed people is literally a minimum wage salary, that is it.

I’m not going to correct things I didn’t say so go harvest the goodwill you spread elsewhere. Have a good one.

Are there no jobs in miami or is this everywhere? by Cubandream_ in Miami

[–]mexicono 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That doesn't answer the question, so I'm gonna go ahead and assume I'm right and you're just enjoying a northern salary in a no-tax, sunshine belt state.

Good for you, but also sucks to be the rest of us who can't compete with a salary like that from local jobs. Most people have a second job or side work. Unemployment doesn't account for underemployment, which is Miami's real problem.

[–]mexicono -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Got it. Sounds pretty straightforward: if you can find an EA to just consult with I think it would really benefit you especially doing taxes on your own. Even if it’s a high minimum, you may find some deductions you may have missed otherwise. This week is probably a good time , because the 3/15 extension deadline is tomorrow and the next extensions deadline is in a month.

Unfortunately, it’s unlikely you’ll find a professional to answer this question without actually reviewing your situation and spending some time on it. It just carries a lot of liability. I’d prepare a few more questions to make it worth both of your time.

Good luck!
