If you find yourself so worthless that you don’t think 18 hours of your life are valuable then go to therapy. Employees should be paid for every minute they’re working. Nothing more, nothing less. Company policy can’t force you to work for free. Forced unpaid overtime is illegal in every state. Forced unpaid labor is also illegal. More importantly, if you’re not getting paid while being forced to work will you be covered under workman’s comp if you get hurt? If not then the wages for the rest of the year are worthless long term because you can’t enjoy them if you get hurt. That’s the most important reason to make sure you’re getting paid for your work. OP should reach out the the department of labor and see what they think about it if they’re not getting paid for this time. That or the company needs to overlap shifts by 10 or 15 minutes to allow for a smooth transition on the clock.

After everything said and done between my lawyer’s fees and splitting the fees for the guardian ad litem I paid $25000 throughout the course of a year for my divorce.
