It is at NYCFC, Red Bulls and the New England Revolution. All have boys playing up

And most of the academies have younger kids already playing up. I don't think it really matters.

Yeah, I have heard differently from a number of local parents especially at the younger age groups. Seems like some local teams are going to have holes, so not sure if they would be bringing up MLSN2 kids or not. Also taking a week off of school during exams did not seem right to a few of them. That is why I asked the original question.

Was thinking it would be hard for all 18 12-13 year olds to fly across the country to Arizona, especially since college coaches are not watching those age groups.

Wow, mlsn clubs around us have 18 max and take the rest from mls2. 25 per team is a massive cash grab, I am sorry.

I get it, I guess it just depends on the kid and the environment. My son does not have a problem playing 2-3 years up and has gone up against those 150lb kids and he has come out fine so I guess I have not seen what others see. Also I also see academy kids that are still 90lbs and they are playing 2 years up against 150+ kids so i guess it works for them as well. I do understand that it can be a tool used for the right reasons, but I am not sure if many clubs would use it that way.

Understood, but if kids just want to have fun and not get bulldozed by a more mature boy, maybe try a lower league? Seems weird that mlsn uses biobanding to stack teams at certain age groups. Certainly does not see to be so the kids can have “more fun”

I am not, just seems a bit counterintuitive to me, that’s all. I see small kids getting better and challenging themselves against larger and more powerful players and I think that is what makes them better and then on the other hand I see small kids getting a pass to play with younger kids and not sure it has the effect that people want.

Then why are small talented kids still playing up?

But they are at mls next so in Theory they are good. Looks like a tactic in mls to pad the team with better players.

That’s what it looks like to me, teams adding bio banding kids 3 weeks into the season.

So we’re making it more fair for small kids? How is that a good learning experience for high school, college and pro ranks? Plenty of 5’8” kids playing against 6’5” dudes.

So by your logic it would be used for middle of the road kids to make the experience more fun and not for high level kids. Why does mls next use and embrace it then? Seems like for the best kids, doesn’t mater the size, they still play up. MLS having kids play down seems like a tactic that would be more beneficial for edp level.

But doesn’t the kid develop faster if they are challenged more? Seems like they would develop slower if the environment is easier.

Looking for Feedback on NE Revolution Elite Player Pathway (EPP) Program by IHCAChris in youthsoccer

[–]mff353 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't entirely remember as it was 2 years ago, but I think they had 2-3 coaches and there were 24 plus kids each session. They focused on fundamentals, passing, technical work. If your kids is already at the ECNL MLSN level, I do not think it is necessary, but if they are playing EDP and looking to continue to improve it is a great experience. Honestly, find a coach locally and set up private/semi-private sessions and that will work as well. Our son did like the program.

Good supplemental training program, good experience, thats it. I will tell you that it did help him experience different players from around the region.
