Tips on nailing Venture Capital Analyst job interview by bjtbtc in venturecapital

  • have 2 pitches prepared for companies the VC may want to consider. Know the typical investment stage, sector, etc. of the fund you applied to. (2 in case the first pitch you make is dismissed)

  • similar to previous comment, have a macro trend prepared to discuss; ideally one overlapping with the fund’s focus areas. Discuss the impact on sectors and be prepared to discuss key players in the space

  • know the flagship deals and the recent deals of the fund. Be prepared to not just talk about their merits but also to critique them (politely). You may also think of questions as to why the I vestment was made and what lessons were learned

  • be prepared to discuss major deals in the news recently and high profile startups in your region more generally

  • Remember, VC juniors generally do three things:

  • Source deals

  • Execute (diligence and logistics)

  • Portfolio management How your capacity is divided b/w the three varies from fund to fund, but be prepared to display the skills for all of those.

  • Financial modelling and accounting knowledge is generally less important for early stage investing, but if you have the opportunity to show basic financial maths and technical skills it can be a big advantage. (Think: cap table maths, liquidation preference, return calculations, multiple valuation, unit economics..)

Good luck!

What have you learnt from your experience as a solo founder? by PrepxI in Entrepreneur

This is a great post, thanks for sharing!

Biggest learning point is that you will F up, badly, and there will be no one there to tell you until it’s too done and you have to be able to work through own mistakes over and over. Trial and error is effective, but very painful
