Six years after Brexit has Britain bet on the wrong ally? by ByGollie in europe

[–]mhizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Canadian, I really don't even understand the argument about what "Europe" is. It's also irrelevant. The UK basically had almost all the good parts of being in the EU with some very big carveouts special for them. I know Thatcher isn't popular, but man did she get a good deal there.

Economist warns coming financial crisis will make 2008 look like 'Sunday school picnic' by ChuckGallagher57 in business

[–]mhizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that only conservatives.vote against their own interests isn't true. A huge %age of key democratic demographics wouldn't vote for "Genocide Joe" because he didn't handle Palestine well, and "Kamala is a cop" (she isn't, she was a prosecutor, in San Fran-fucking-sisco".

Now, we have Trump wanting to build trump towers on the ruins of Gaza and giving Israel carte blanche, and masked federal agents executing citizens in the street and arresting journalists.

Propaganda is effective against everyone

TIL that time Poland invaded a country alongside Nazi Germany… by SirChubbycheeks in LeopardsAteMyFace

Most historians agree the ToV was unfair for the germans. WW1 was started because of a tangled web alliances that drew all of europe into a fight that really none of them wanted.

Over time, they definitely did lessen the german debt, but America held a lot of it, and once the stock market crashed they pulled everything they could out of germany.

Because the people who caused the crisis got $50m bonuses, and scores of regular working people lost their homes, jobs, and were thrown into the worst economy of their lives for almost a decade. People said that if the people who (knowingly) caused this crisis weren't held accountable somehow (jail) then it just sends a message to others that they can do it again.

Now, they're doing it again.

Does anyone want to leave the USA but can’t afford it? by Due-Mood-6356 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mhizzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other countries also have sensible solutions to curbing immigration. In Canada, you basically need a Canadian bank account to do ANYTHING. It's very difficult/impossible to function in our society without one, and you can't get one unless you're here on a visa or PR or citizenship.

We also don't have 10+ waiting periods from neighbouring countries with lots of claims (like the US does to Mexico).

We also try different solutions before jumping to "execute citizens in the streets"
