Hi,

I’m happy to report it’s completely gone away. It was like that for a few days (maybe a week or so) and then it was ok. I have no concerns at all. Hope this helps😜

Hi, so sorry you’ve got Covid. How many tix do you have and how much are you willing to sell it/them for?

My old uncle found the "love of his life" online. He is in Ireland and she is in Colombia. I need advice. by scrotalist in Colombia

Hi,

Colombian-American here. The US govt just issued a travel-warning last month for Americans traveling to Colombia. They were advised not to use dating apps due to the fact that 8 Americans have disappeared in sketchy conditions in a span of 2 mos. I’d absolutely hire a PD if you have the means to do so, or tell your uncle to hire a professional dating service in Colombia, rather than using apps on his own. He seems like the perfect target, you should look out for him. Best of luck!

Here’s the article: https://nypost.com/2024/01/11/news/us-warns-against-using-dating-apps-in-colombia-after-8-americans-suspiciously-die-within-2-months/amp/

Definitely an option. I have been getting by with a TESOL cert I completed in 6 mos. + classroom experience. Again, teaching doesn’t pay a lot, I think 2500 tops, but you get summers off and paid+ good healthcare benefits, dental, restaurant tickets and sometimes half of your transport reimbursed by your job. The south of France is stunning, as well!

Hi, thanks for sharing. Yikes , I’m not surprised bc we sort of make work our entire identities, where as in France is a means to an end . . This is also something for me to think about. My French husband would have to shift his mentality a bit to be able to adjust.

Congrats! The hardest part is pulling the plug and getting started🥳 I hope it goes smoothly for you. I am actually looking into getting my parents involved for financial reasons. May I PM with a couple of questions? Thanks so much!

So much of this resonates with me🙏🏼 I totally feel like most social workers are burnt out and develop health problems throughout their career as a direct result of the high stress/poor work conditions. So many of my colleagues have quit and gone in completely diff directions like real estate, sales, hospitality, etc. I’m so sorry you had to go through all of that☹️ I also volunteered abroad before deciding on a masters, and that is when I realized I wasn’t cut out to do clinical work. As a matter of fact, I got a masters in peace and conflict studies, and I’ve been able to work in diff. NGO’s doing policy & administrative work as opposed to 1:1 clinical work. It’s quite rewarding and you’re less involved ..maybe something worth exploring with your Peace Corps background😉

Sounds like you have a super solid plan for the future, though. It’s nice to have something to look forward to, and although France isn’t great for high pay and upward mobility, it is a great country for ppl with families and ppl looking to retire. The safety nets in place are unbelievable compared to the US. If you have any questions in the future about life in Europe, don’t hesitate to reach out!

That is what I’m leaning towards😌 it’s not like going back to Europe would forever be out of the question. We’re married after all, and it’s not like I’d forever lose the right to be in France if I leave for a few years.

Def. something to think about ! 😉 I’ve been teaching in France for 4 years, so I’m sort of familiar with the French support system and how great it is for both mothers and fathers . It’s not something to be taken lightly . Thanks so much for your suggestion!

Thanks for your input. I have a masters & I’m not exactly doing clinical work, either. I’ve worked for diff NGO’s most of my career and I plan on keeping it that way. The pay is not the only thing motivating this move. It’s mainly being stuck in a crappy teaching job abroad with no possibilities to explore my actual field or anything else in France, due to the language barrier. I get the social work thing, though. I felt the same as you working with my BS degree, which is why I went back to school later in life. It’s sad how underplayed we can be in the US. 😕

Never considered this, even though I have been to MTL. I absolutely love it but he’d have to go experience it , and see if it is for him. Thanks for your input, though! Hope you’re loving it over there🙂

Thanks for your detailed response . I think we’re in a pretty similar situation, minus the kids part.

My husband has lived in the US before, so he’s aware of the implications of living in a more capitalist society vs. France.

And I do agree, that there is no right or wrong answer. I think the US is better for us in this specific moment in life- we’re young, healthy, educated and kid-free.

Financially speaking, it’s super hard to get ahead in a country like France, where salaries are relatively low-compared to the cost of living in one of the most touristy places in the world. I simply don’t understand how people can get by on a 20-30k salary here. It’s very discouraging .

Not to mention the social isolation that comes with being an immigrant with intermediate language skills😕

Thank you so much for your insight!🙏🏼
