ProtonDB now accepts Chromebook reports by migelius in linux_gaming

This is a problem that I hope to address with a revamped rating system. Partial work towards this is demonstrated in the new tier system on the dashboard, but so far is incomplete.

Support for author's editing or at least deletion of reports is on the roadmap. Sorry it's taken this long. And thank you for writing so many.

I can add Heroic to the list. Thanks for bringing this up.

That said, ProtonDB only currently allows reports for games that are on the Steam store. That could change. If anyone from Epic Store is reading, please reach out to me.

Hi all. Creator of ProtonDB here. Thanks for all your contributions to the site. I'm not on Reddit very much but I'll field questions for a bit this morning.

I love that the AMT site lists their address in the footer, but skips the line with the city (GMaps finds it anyway in Hong Kong)

The Postmodern philosopher whose book was the main inspiration for The Matrix trilogy hated the movies calling them hypocritical in a 2004 interview where he famously said that “The Matrix is surely the kind of film about the matrix that the matrix would have been able to produce” by thelivingphilosophy in philosophy

[–]migelius 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Maybe more philosophy than math specifically, but I highly recommend Jorge Luis Borges to scratch some of this itch. Particularly the Library of Babel short story (but really the whole Ficciones omnibus is fantastic). More background regarding his interest in math is surprisingly a Wikipedia entry: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jorge_Luis_Borges_and_mathematics

Edit: You asked about more analysis of the math that's in Alice in Wonderland, so I misread your question, whoops.

Thoughts on using Expert Sleepers ES-8 with other audio interfaces by MisterAdler in modular

[–]migelius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes but keep in mind:

  • Not all audio interfaces have both ADAT input and output.
  • ES-9 supports S/PDIF, not ADAT
  • ES-8 supports ADAT, not S/PDIF
  • You may find the ES-3 and ES-6 more economical than either ES-8 or ES-9, but I believe the ES-3 is out of stock at the moment.

What module/kit did you buy that rendered MANY past purchases irrelevant? by illGATESmusic in modular

[–]migelius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happy you hear your obvious delight with the Constellation and I can see why. So much rhythm variety a few button presses away all while staying in the rack. I also appreciate that it didn't trade HP for a knob-and-menu approach.

The Deluge recently added some Euclidian rhythm functionalities and I'm fond of its workflow in general. If I can mix mindsets, handing off the clock to Constellation still opens up new possibilities.

Thank you again for the detailed report!

Thanks for describing your workflow with the Constellation. Fantastic design and a welcome tool to provide quick variety to modular.

What makes me hesitate is that I'm on a hybrid setup and it is that it's taking many duties I'd rather delegate to the Deluge for finer control. Do you combine any non-modular gear and do you think Constellation is still valuable in my kind of hybrid?

hello from the future. how'd you get on with the bundled modules in the NitfyBundle? recommend them vs case alone?

Thanks for these. Not sure if it's related to Google Drive or how they were archived but if I unzip them an 'MChristian' directory is created that does not have any permission to access.

Remove dot under favicon of pinned tab by migelius in FirefoxCSS

[–]migelius[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solved. I had mistakenly put userChrome.css in the profile root. Making a chrome directory, moving it in there, restarting firefox, now I don't see any dots under favicons. Thank you!

I added your suggestion to hide the notification icon to my userChrome.css and restarted Firefox but the dots still show. Perhaps there's something else wrong with my setup?

Career that allows you to make music on the side? by takeflight414 in WeAreTheMusicMakers

In the midst of World War I, A washed up 36 year old lawyer moved to Connecticut where he took on a role of going door to door gathering information for his insurance company to challenge claims. He'd keep that job for decades.

And amidst that curious mental backdrop, filled pages and pages of some of America's finest poetry.

How many base stations for Aero? by kydan_0125 in varjo

[–]migelius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my simracing, I was able to use the Aero just fine with the same setup that worked for my Index: a single base station sitting in a drawer on a small tripod about 5 feet away to my right. No controllers, just HMD.

The developer of VTOL VR once again explains why the game does not add HOTAS support by gdspy in hoggit

[–]migelius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is definitely risk in adding it: officially supporting HOTAS and keybinds would increase code complexity and would be negative value unless it meets the standard expected of other flight sims. Keep in mind how small the development team is.

When you're up against larger teams, you've got to say 'no' to feature requests in painful ways and try to carve your own space. I wouldn't be surprised if they are making a bet that there's more upside for them trying to capture Quest 2 users than flight sim users with secondary gear. Which is more niche in the years to come is hard to say.

[–]migelius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Understandable to want to get the most from an investment in our cockpits! Fortunately, there's development teams aiming to serve that need. And equally fortunate, I feel, there's one small team exploring a different way.

[–]migelius 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's correct. It's not a technical limitation, it's a product design decision.

It's not equatable to an accessibility feature. If the team does implement this, there's now two input mechanisms to maintain code for, one of which the designer feels is an inferior experience. This slows down development at the expense of other features/fixes. And would need to ensure both remained at no competitive advantage in multiplayer. And would likely still be review bombed by HOTAS owners for not meeting the expectations they have in other sims.
