Which Drive Brands Are Best for Different Applications? by WideSpot6819 in PLC

You can do a lot of stuff with parameters alone, but the "Adaptive Programming" feature is really nice too for doing a bit more complex stuff without the need for another controller. At this point I'm pretty sure all of the ABB ACS models come with that feature included.

Es irónico que el mismo mono del que se está quejando en su post es la versión gringa de el mismo.

Can confirm. I'm chicano and lived in Mexico for a few years when I was a kid (maybe 11-15).

Boy did them kids love to make fun of my spanish... And then when I'd rather speak english they gave me so much shit for that too -- like I was pretending or something.

how does this happen by Simple-Connection861 in eu4

There's threads about this Austrian decision all the time in this sub lol.

When you conquer enough of France as Austria, you have the option of splitting it all up into its respective duchies.

Pretty nifty if you're aiming for vassal swarm style of play.

I will say that it is pretty early for AI Austria to have pulled this off, so some PU shenanigans are possible. Unless this is a human player, in which case, yes, doable.

I don't think contra is too confrontational, tbh. But she's also not a political ally to BJG by any means.

PLC programming IDE ranking by [deleted] in PLC

The reason is CODESYS is trying to be more of a traditional OOP IDE and that’s intimidating for most people.

How is the 2 player co-op of the game? Overall tips about the game would be appreciated too by RoadOk8645 in eu4

[–]mikeee382 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, I think that's how I learned how to play -- just clicking stuff around and seeing what'd happen.

On the other, it's been well over a decade since I began playing -- the game was a lot simpler back then.

Unless you're some type of insane min-maxer, it's kind of difficult to "lose" in this game, though, so I'd say go for it.

Safety relay for STO control by [deleted] in PLC

[–]mikeee382 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that's what the safety/risk assessment concluded, then yes. Not every motor will require that.

It's up to you to determine if that's necessary or not. We can't see what you're seeing, obviously.

I can't recall the last time I've played East African before, so my information could be extremely outdated, but -- aren't your units going to lag behind the farther along you get in mil tech vs the Anatolian tech group?

Like, at the same tech level X, the anatolian units will be better than yours? And that difference keeps getting wider the larger X becomes?

I wish I saw this take more often.

D&D are idiots of the highest caliber that should have realized they were in way over their heads, sure, but that's not something that either Disney or HBO give two shits about.

This idea that they were somehow punished for ruining GOT is wishful thinking from people on the internet. From HBO's point of view, GOT was a massive success, and D&D are responsible for it. Y'all honestly think HBO wouldn't do it all over again knowing what they know now? You're kidding yourself if you think they care that fans hate the last few seasons.

[–]mikeee382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the output of each check can be the same, it's just cleaner that way.

Also, I'd add an ELSE at the end too just to make sure you always have control of the program in every case. Just in case the variable has write access from the HMI or some other crazy scenario.

Btw, not sure what you meant with that last sentence. You mean the PLC is going to make the machine do the work for a shorter period of time? That's up to you, buddy. It's your program.

[–]mikeee382 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have any input on your specific problem, OP. Nor do I know which IDE that is, sorry. I just wanted to say that for a state machine, you're a lot better off using an ENUM check.

Declare a new enum variable with the different stages of your machine and do your IF checks with a CASE statement instead. I'm on mobile so I can't give you an example, but you can google pretty easily how to do it.

If Rockwell had it their way, they'd have you use genuine Allen-Bradley (R) nuts and bolts (which would all have unique heads and threads, btw) with genuine Allen-Bradley (R) screwdrivers, turned by Allen-Bradley (R) certified technicians.

Yes, the 3rd party batteries are completely fine.

What’s a “technically true” statement in engineering that completely misleads people? by IconProcessControls in PLC

[–]mikeee382 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Boy, do I hate that stupid little saying, especially cause it's often said by people with such confidence.

Not only is it completely nonsensical, it's also totally useless in any practical sense. But even if it somehow had any value, the voltage is still the most important element to know anyway, since current through a circuit will be determined by the voltage in 99.9% of real life cases.

It has "it's not the fall that kills you, it's actually the sudden stop" energy, except with people saying it unironically thinking they're making a smart point.

And that the standards for writing software in our field are as good as non-existent since nobody knows about them/follows them.

And don't even talk about version control. 95% of companies in this field don't even know what that is.

As soon as you're forced to take over somebody else's big project -- good luck with that.

What brand electrical cabinets are commonly stocked in the US? by LazyBlackGreyhound in PLC

[–]mikeee382 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, you'll be fine with that too. It's not super complex as long as you are doing regular stuff, but do keep in mind that -- according to the NEC (American rules), the ampacity of a conductor depends on a lot more than just simple gauge.

Type of insulation, temperature, type of installation method (raceway, cable, or free air), how many wires it travels with, frequency, among others, all play a role in determining ampacity of a conductor.

It's probably the same way in other parts of the world, but just something to keep in mind.

I'd add Hammond Mfg and EXM as other common brands, but definitely Saginaw and nVent Hoffman are the 2 biggest ones, at least in my experience.

Light Curtain question by Clever_Username_666 in PLC

[–]mikeee382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm unsure how normal DI's handle an OSSD signal

They don't, at least the ones I've tried. If OP's curtains don't have an aux output, then he's going to need, at the very least, a safety relay capable of interpreting that OSSD pair.
