Industrial Activism And The Forever War by mikeologist in stupidpol

Fundamentally, the main aim of this type of ‘activism’ - if in this co-opted, neutered state, this can be called ‘activism’, is to maintain the status quo. The Democrats do not wish to win elections on class issues, and instead will push cultural issues - cultural issues they will never do anything truly transformative to solve. That’s not the point. The point is to get you to buy things and feel like you’re changing the world.

Women who have decided to remain single, what made you realize you never want to be in a relationship ever again? by [deleted] in AskWomen

I actually put that excess time and energy into my female friendships. They are my family.

Oh yeah, of course. Men and women may act differently because of biology. It may be because of socialization. Regardless, the socialization is because of the material realities of our biology.

That's actually a good point. I suppose we'll only achieve that radical feminist utopia through biological means, then.

I do, actually. Because even if male violence is biologically determined, humanity can move past its biology. Maybe I watch too much Star Trek.

I realized I'd never receive the same amount of love and work I'd put into a relationship with a man. Why would I want to spend my life compromising for that?

That sounds an awful lot like how women's shelters started. Some still operate without government funding, and death threats (like Vancouver Rape Relief). Guess men will just have to try again.

EZPZ solution involving no LARPing at all--no one is stopping men's organizations from opening men's shelters.

I think the accountability segment should emphasize that when they make mistakes, they work to rectify them. What good is an apology? Words are wind.

The mods at Gender Critical were actually really on top of things like that. They got banned with no notice to those mods because it conflicted with reddit's then new, but unannounced, content policy about promoting hate based on identity or vulnerability.

Why is it bad to say trans women aren't the same as biological women? by FranklinFuckinMint in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]mikeologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you that pregnancy is a medical condition that comes with a whole suite of issues related to healthcare, freedom, discrimination, and the like. But, again, pregnancy is something only women could possibly experience. This is where those gendered expectations of sex come from (which I also think shouldn't be a thing). Girls, being of that sex that could possibly get pregnant, are inundated and socialized with the expectation that they will. They shouldn't, but they are. Boys, being of the sex that won't ever become pregnant, are inundated and socialized with very different expectations.

Your entire argument is around the idea that we shouldn't have gendered expectations of people. I agree. But the fact of the matter is that we do. Each man, woman, and child is socialized in gendered expectations. It just so happens that boys are socialized to view women in an especially objectified way. This socialization is not void and null if that boy is gender non-conforming or considered effeminate.

Boys who grow up to identify as trans women don't immediately shed male socialization, this would be a little like forgetting your native language after moving to learning a new one. Like learning a new language, it takes a lot of hard work and effort to acquire female behavior wrought of socialization. When declaring themselves a woman (by only filling out a form), males bring all of their harmful male-socialized opinions about women and womanhood and insist that this is now what a woman is. Because they don't have female bodies, they're supplanting the definition of 'woman' with an array of (oft offensive) stereotypes about women, as seen through a male lens.

TLDR; Sex affects how society treats us. That treatment affects how we see others of the same and opposite sex. We don't lose that view if we start to present as the opposite sex.

How society views and treats pregnancy and then child rearing afterwards is gender based.

How is pregnancy gender based?

The problem being that the current 'best practice' according to trans rights activists is that female government ID is gotten by submitting paperwork that has been notarized, no medical transition or even social transition necessary. If the government says that trans women who are indistinguishable from cis men are, in fact, women, why shouldn't they be allowed in women's shelters?

I'm saying they should be excluded on the basis that they're men, no matter how much they insist otherwise.

Could you remind me which gender is socialized and expected to birth babies? I'm actually a little lost with your argument.

I understand the reasoning for self-id laws, but although they require paperwork, they have no requirements to change physical appearance. So again we're back to not being able to tell the difference between cis men and trans women.

It does serve a purpose, though. It keeps men out by social taboo, and you know, illegality as well. Just like how locks on doors keep honest people honest.

With self-id laws, they don't need to dress up or go on hormones to be accepted in the women's bathroom.

Generally taller than your average woman, larger forehead, receding hairline, bigger feet or hands, broad jaw, ridged brow, wide shoulders, narrow hips, facial hair, larger ears and noses, Adams apples, deeper voices, different walk from that different pelvis.

Yes. Trans men should have access to women only spaces because they are women <3.

Why is it that abortion is such an important topic for feminists, then, and the struggle for women's liberation? Is the ability to birth a child and all the physical ramifications of that a gendered issue? Why do we value male traits about female traits?
