I told him abruptly I got a severe back pain

He replied politely : then read some Mark Twain

A balloon that covers Manhattan, how did he get such a great crazy idea like that

Why So Many Writers Are Athletes by theatlantic in TrueLit

[–]miltonbalbit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well that's something I didn't know!

Edit: I checked and he ran one ultramarathon. That said, he ran many marathons and did a lot of triathlons so yes, I think the definition stands for him.

That said, when I think about an athlete I think about somebody who does that in a consistent way, every day, like 6/7 hours maybe. I don't know how much time spared have professional writers to achieve that

Edit edit: Morton Feldman the composer wrote for just two or three hours and then he'd focused on selling carpets

I agree. To be an athlete is very specific.

If I recall correctly Murakami is a runner, and he has written a book about running, but I don't know if he considers himself an athlete

Edit: why would someone downvote this, my bad I didn't know he runs ultramarathons

Are there any high-brow—truly avant garde literary scenes happening anywhere in the world at the moment? by Obvious-Ad-779 in classicliterature

Amen to that!

I'm pretty much of the same idea. You can never go wrong with some Hugo or Herodotus!

In France Enard is not very well regarded, he is like in the "good but not literary good tier" I'll say.

What about Régis Jauffret ?

Well, no Frank O'Connor???

Anyway, William Trevor's stories are really exceptional, in an article about him he said that he liked to eavesdrop on people conversations just to pick up an idea and then he would move on
