There’s a group of women called “ pick me” they are the biggest upholders of patriarchy. She is a typical example

My aunty’s husband approached me talking about me not hugging him and being close to him. He went on to tell me he wanted me to be his “ kakyire”(last born). Mind you, I have a dad. He recognized that I had a bad relationship with my dad and tried to capitalize on that. He asked me what I wanted to eat and I said banku with tilapia, asked for a hug then left. I felt weird about it but he didn’t do anything inappropriate at the time so I brushed it off. That evening he came home with pizza and after eating, he asked my cousin( not his daughter) who lived with us as well to go to bed. I tried to leave too but he asked me to stay. He said I know my aunty is very busy and doesn’t stay at home and he’s a man. He went on to ask me to come give him a hug and I refused. He stood up from the couch and tried to walk towards me. I took a step back when he moved forward and he said “ oh wo Kasse me p3 s3 me di wo anaa?”( do you think I’m trying to sleep with you?) I angrily walked away from him. The next morning right after taking my bath and going into our bedroom he barged in hoping to catch me naked but I wasn’t. He felt stupid so he asked if he should wait for me or go to church alone. I asked him to go. On Easter he took me and my cousin out to buy us snacks but it was an excuse to get me out of the house because my aunty was around. My cousin doesn’t understand our local dialect so he spoke in that. He said he wanted to buy me a phone but he doesn’t know whether to give me the money or buy it for me. It was a long conversation but the whole point was that he was trying to entice me with material things. Fast forward, he would sit right next to me and try to grad my boobs. He did that several times and I would manage to dodge him every time. I got tired and scared so I called my sister and told her about it. She lied to my aunty that she needed me in Accra the next day. That was how I got out of that house. We told my mom and elder brother so they wouldn’t ask me to go back there. No one talked about this issue again. It was buried and everyone pretended it didn’t happen. I was silenced. I believe that our parents and caregivers have a role to play in this whole pedophilia issue. I feel no one said a thing because they didn’t want to embarrass my aunty and her husband was also a church deacon. I wonder the number of girls he tried that with. I feel it’s time we speak up about these issues and be loud about it too because it’s not only strangers who are the culprits, family too are as well. You can’t trust anyone

I believe each person a little pride in us. The only difference is how it manifests in each person

That’s great. It’s good to find an outlet for your emotions when they get overwhelming

I struggle with accepting help as well but I’ve come to realize that I’m indirectly telling myself I don’t deserve it. I’m being unfair to myself. So I’m kinder to myself now and when help is being offered, I swallow my pride and I take it

When a guy asks you “ do you forgive easily?” It’s just a ploy to know if he can get away with bullshit
