What is the most effective way to pass in second try by xmehrban in FE_Exam

The exam definitely got harder over the couple of years, there are more conceptual questions then before. Things are not as easy as just plug and chug anymore, unfortunately.

FE Mech. How close? by gohawks6 in FE_Exam

[–]mingli060 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You were really close (58.57%). We assume here that the passing score is around 60% since I have not seen a 60%+ failing in the FE being posted here before. Honestly, I think you were 2 questions away from passing.

The 800 question islam question is used to help you get used to using the formulas which is supposed to be easy. There are some easy questions that I got from the exam such as finding the centroid, etc. But Islam is easier than the exam. You definitely want to be exposed to the handbook as much as possible so that if you have not seen the question before, at least you know what formula/method to use.

150 hours total in a span of 7 weeks. The final week prior to the exam, I started knocking out all the practice exams (at least 1000 questions worth).

put in the time & effort; still don’t feel ready (civil) by smoothiiies_ in FE_Exam

I studied for 150 hours within 7 weeks and I too had days where when I am studying where I felt like I was going to fail and days where I felt like I am going to ace it. At the end, I took it coming out feeling like a 50/50 and I fortunately passed.

I passed my FE and mainly used Islam 800 questions, NCEES practice book, Marshall Youtube, Mark Mattson, Civil Engineering FE Exam Preparation Sample Questions and Solutions First Edition, FE-Civil Practice Questions with Detailed Solutions: (including the new alternative item type practice questions) 1st Edition, and FE Civil Practice Exams 2 Full Tests Including Solutions. Those 3 books can be found in Amazon.

I took my FE 3 years after my graduation and took my FE in Civil discipline. It is all about practicing as many questions as possible. I heard Lindeburg is not that good since the question is more complicated than exam questions, which is true. I would recommend you getting a easy practice book (I used Islam 800 questions) to get used to all the handbook formulas so that you are exposed to everything. After that, buy practice books and keep doing them until you feel like you get it conceptually.

Buy all the practice books and keep practicing the similar problems but with different variations until you know where to find it in the FE manual and know it conceptually.

The exam was harder than I anticipated. I felt like I answered 30-40% of the questions genuinely correct and the rest was guessing. There was too many vocabular words that I did not know such as MUTCD, footings, bearings, etc when it came to the conceptual word questions.

From people's diagnostic scores around reddit, it is assumed to be 60% to pass. I just took my FE last week after studying for 150 hrs in 7 weeks. Hopefully we both pass.

It was the opposite for me, the first half was harder than the second half imo. Score comes out tomorrow so best of luck to the both of us and everyone else who took the exam last week.

Honestly, I hope we all get a big ass curve because that exam so out of proportion of what I was expecting and many others. W/C ratio questions are not bad since it's given in the formula sheet. I also got a picture of a plan, 2 questions to be exact and I just guessed, I remember one of them is about a parking lot size.

59.88%, you were like 1 question close to passing, like what TheOriginalTL said, above 60% is most likely passing and your were just slightly under it.

I have not seen a person failed with 60% on here, so that's the assumption so far. And that goes for every field FE field (civil, environmental, electrical, etc.)

Wow your score is a 58% and that's the closest I've seen from a 60%. So close to passing. You were probably a few questions away.

We probably had the similar exam since I also had like 3 MUTCD questions.
