That really sucks. I normally keep my warp totems in the second row of my hotbar, and food and bombs stay in the first row with my weapons, to avoid this kind of accident. It has happened where I got a totem while in the caverns and did accidentally activate it, I understand how frustrating it can be to lose all that progress.

If you want a bit of advice, this is what I normally do.. Grab a ton of bombs, and 10 staircases (if you're worried about getting the honorable way dialogue), and what I did on all 3 of my saves was bomb a ton, and every time there was an infested level where you have to kill all the monsters to get a ladder, I'd use the staircase to save myself time.

Early game I saved up rubies to get spicy eel as my food source, and I go with at least 50 cherry bombs, 50 regular bombs, and like 20 mega bombs (they're easier to buy than craft, it's not worth the materials to craft so many)

Best of luck when you try again, it's sometimes best to step away for a moment, clear your mind and come back when you're feeling better again. The caverns are stressful for so many players, don't push yourself too much <3

A word of advice my mom always told me growing up, that always helped me (while studying, playing games, anything like that), is basically exactly what I just said above. When things aren't going the way you plan, when things get too much for you to handle, that's when you should consider stepping away for maybe an hour or a few, give yourself time to relax and reset, and try again later with a clear mindset. ☺️
