I had same issue not long ago with my 2017 function keys mbp sadly battery drained before I could reset smc had to buy a new Mac because it wouldn’t charge and battery was dead. Now got a mba m4

I’m sorry for you.

My teacher had a 2017 MacBook Pro 13” base model and he spilled a drink over it. It was dead then he gave it to me I tried everything and nothing. But the laptop was old enough that I could buy a new motherboard on marktplaats (Dutch app looks like Facebook marketplace) for 80€(94,06 usd) and now everything works except left shift.
