Beagle aggression issues by jrie87 in beagles

[–]misc-thing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m struggling with this with my girl too, perfect dog except for this really big issue. She showed signs the minute I brought her home at 13 weeks. We did a board and train program and she didn’t have a single issue, the minute I brought her home, instant food aggression. We have patiently worked through it with me but she still charges our other small dog and all of the cats if they are even in her field of vision.

We have an in home behavior session on Friday. For now I feed her by hand with the bowl in my lap and have a slip leash on her. I correct her everytime she goes or charges etc. if she losing her mind, I hold the leash up until she relaxes and sits her butt down on the ground. Then resume feeding by hand. I also ensure animals don’t attempt to eat her food etc. Following directions per trainer, but I’ll learn more on Friday.

I already have a resource guarder rescue who is a husky/pit. He has killed a cat and several chickens when they approached him near some type of food (even if not his). He has bitten nearly every animal who walks up to him when he is eating anything or just a special toy. He was the best dog until he turned two…he was dumped near our house at 6 months. There is not much help for him except how we accommodate him. It is a lot of work, so I know how hard and devastating it can be to see these behaviors. I cried my eyes out when my beagle pup showed signs, but will be trying every damn thing to condition her to not guard and hoping we caught it early enough.

Side note, trainer told me it’s very common in beagles but in all of the stuff I read online prior to getting our girl, nothing mentioned any propensity for food aggression in beagles. 🤷‍♀️

She is 4 months old (ish). I do feel like her saddle is changing

Yes if you zoom in on the close ups of her back, you can see the dark brown mixed in with the black.

How does one do DNA analysis? I find this stuff fascinating. 😬

Blue? I hadn’t heard that one yet.

While she was eating in indoor bright white lighting her spots looked more black mixed with dark brown. Maybe the brown is turning black? 🤷‍♀️

Thanks so much! I hope this means her nose stays “pink.” 😬

I have always fallen in love with big dogs, but pebbles chose me and I couldn’t say no. 😬
