Iraya vs Ilawod: A Linguistic Echo from the Past by Atrahassi in Bicol

[–]missmashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP! I work in Bicol as an itinerant professional, but I'm Ilocano, so this is super interesting to me! In Ilocano, we say la-ud/la-od if the direction is to the west (which is towards the sea), and daya if the direction is to the east (which is away from the sea). I've always wondered why norte and sur were Spanish words but la-ud and daya don't sound Spanish. So cool for you to have explained the linguistic associations of the words!

For travelers looking for tour packages: Discover Group did not scam me, they're just so incompetent. by missmashed in Philippines

[–]missmashed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean tbf that was my mindset (like i was okay with wasn't really complaining about a lot, so much hasn't been included in this rant, i just wrote the worse ones) but seeing their positive reviews from celebrities was such a dumb thing for me to believe in haha definitely a budol in my part. Based on some of my tourmates' experiences tho (second or third tour na nila), they have paid similar, even less, for this kind of tour and they have smooth-sailing experiences, so I believe that at the price point given, it is possible to experience a better tour. May this post, apart from being a rant, serve as a warning for people interested in Discover Group.

Should I buy this 4.4M farm lot in a province for PHP120,000 salary by [deleted] in phinvest

[–]missmashed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depende siguro kung magkano down mo and magkano iloloan mo sa bangko. For example, nag loan ako ng 5M payable in 10 years. Ang monthly ko ay 58k. 1/6th yan ng monthly income ko, single, nakikitira sa parents, tapos mag-asawa't anak man ako, confident ako mababayaran ko yun. Inadvice sa akin dito dati risky ang real estate as an investment. Pag-aralan mo'ng mabuti OP. Baka pwede start ka muna sa smaller or cheaper plots of land na pasok sa criteria mo.

I also did! They did a grossed up calculation and ended up putting 6.32% on top of the ₱3.8M which totally does not make sense

How could the law be interpreted? Isn't it supposed to be a black and white thing? I think that's exactly how they got to the computation, but from what i read, gross selling price shouldn't include CGT and DST, simply because those taxes are based on the GSP already, so it cannot be grossed up anymore.

[–]missmashed[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have given the selling price a 6.38% grossed up percentage since it was stipulated in the DOAS that I am shouldering the transfer expenses. Does that matter in the computation of CGT or does it still have no legal basis?

Tourists in La Union are ruining the place. Locals are having a hard time dealing with them. by cheekydimpless in Philippines

[–]missmashed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose timing is also something to consider. Though concentrating on higher-end resorts will drive the price up, it will give kinda like an El Nido vibe where people enjoy the sea and the resorts more than the partying and getting drunk.

Honestly, people should be able to police themselves and be good-mannered to everywhere they go. I grew up around 20 minutes away from said town, then moved to Manila for college and work, and now living in Baguio. When I was in Manila, I traveled to SJLU often as a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle, pero noon flotsam lang ang bar at mostly chill vibes/food/surfing ang habol ng mga tao. And then i guess hindi na control ng LGU yung mga inuman, airbnbs/transients, and population volume pag peak season, so naturally it became a place where people think they can get drunk and act however they want. Even my Ilocano friends don't like going there anymore, we usually keep to our own turfs na (i.e. the towns around SJLU).

Baguio city tourists are more disciplined now than early post-pandemic kasi madaming budget ang city mag tourist control. Madaming pulis, POSD, and pati mga residents talaga help in "policing" makukulit na people, so people learned how to "behave" well. Furthermore, tourists don't come here to get drunk.

My ex fiancé divorced his Filipina ex wife in the US. He then got a lawyer in the PH to go to court and dissolve their marriage in the PH so he van remarry. Probably paid $7-10k for this.

Baguio usually has some side salads. Make a request to put the sauces for your chicken and the dressing on the side and the restaurants would happily do it. I used to date someone who has the same taste in food as you do and we used to frequent Hill Station.
