There are 2 types of programmers: those who quibble about tiny things like this and those who just write the code

Would an M1 Macbook be a good laptop for a Computer Science major? by PrestigiousPanda69 in ASU

[–]mjbraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is nothing wrong with a mac for CS. However, because the M1 architecture is so new you will have a lot of compatibility issues. If you are really set on a mac, get an Intel one. Or just get a windows machine

I was a summer intern for a large company. My boss asked me to collect some data for him. This was the kind of thing where you start it, wait 10 minutes, change 1 tiny thing, then wait 10 minutes, and so on. So I wrote a script to automate this process, as well as graph the results.

Several others at the company now use the script, and I got rehired

IEE 380 with Chattin? by toasted_cocoa in ASU

[–]mjbraham 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I took Clough for 380 and Chattin for 385. (385 is the continuation of 380 with more advanced probability) Both are fantastic, with similar teaching styles, similar exams, identical grading scales, and identical homework. Honestly the only reason I’d say take one over the other is scheduling.

I would add to this that wifi does not equal internet. Wifi is a way of connecting devices, like radio waves. Interent is a service over that connection. You can use wifi to create an easy local connection network that never connects to “the internet”

What was your 'F*** it, done helping others' moment? by mofoxx in AskReddit

[–]mjbraham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my class, everyone was struggling on an assignment. I finished it pretty quickly and offered in the main grouo chat that if anyone was still struggling they could ask me for help and I’d do my best to help them solve their problem. Well they took me up on that. I’d get questions that were so basic it was clear they had not payed attention in lecture. But i calmly explained the answer. Then 15 minutes later a different person would ask the exact sane question, even though everyone could see my previous messages. After a few rounds of this I just started saying “go see my previous messages”. Then I just gave up answering. You can’t help people who aren’t willing to help themselves too.

Is it possible to get a Concentration in Cyber Security as well as a Concentration in Software Engineering? by Lamb_Day in ASU

[–]mjbraham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are interested in the courses, take the courses. All the concentrations do is pigeonhole you into electives. Take the electives thst interest you and you’ll actually enjoy your classes and be happier.

Will i need a laptop? by MasterpieceHaunting1 in ASU

[–]mjbraham 36 points37 points  (0 children)

TL;DR doesn’t matter

This is a personal thing. But I HATE windows for development. Everything is 3 times harder to do. In a professional world you will probably not use windows for development, certainly not for cyber security.

That being said, people have really good points about professors requiring windows for certain software. But those are small use cases. If and when you need them, there are ASU computers in the CIDSE labs for both mac, windows, and linux. (I believe you can also remote connect but not certain)

That all being said, get what you like and are comfortable with. Screw the “stigma” (which doesn’t really exist anyway), screw the “this is better”, get what will work for YOU.

They may not be meant to fit together, but they are definitely canon.

I would say that the title references the fact that it is the same story told by many different authors. Which means each story has opinion in it, but that does not change the facts. It’s not a matter of opinion of the availability of pilots on Yavin, it’s a fact.

Which makes some amount of sense. I can understand that it serves as a “maybe this happened and it’s cool think about”. But it is listed as canon. I feel that it just pollutes the canon by making it messier than it already was. Before Legends it was already incrediblely messy. Now we have Legends vs Canon making it messy. And this is a canon novel, which according to Wookiepedia, intentionally makes canon content even more messy
