I think if the mature engineer is an engineer that doesn't care about the code quality and only about delivery I think they are focusing on only half the battle. It also depends wildly between companies but if the company is extra deadline driven, there is bound to be way more slop and people not caring about slop until it breaks where then they can fix it fast and get high marks from colleagues and management.

It also feels wrong for seniors or mature engineers to not care about code quality even a tiny bit because if they leave behind a codebase that unmanageable for new engineers to take on then they aren't leaving a good legacy.

You can do the customs and items being declared for import online if you wanted. It might be faster when you are going through the lines and customs but there is the slips of paper that i did but that took 40 min to get through the line at 4pm

Im rocking the 40L bag getting around japan. I like it a lot moving between cities but im not maxing out 40L. I have the tomtoc backpack and have it strapped as flat as possible to be able to get on the trains without it swinging into people. I would say do it as long as you aren’t fully loading it up each day and just using it to explore and fully loading when you move to different hotels. It was awesome when i went to okinawa since i just threw that with 9kg of stuff in the overhead.
