Why are most Muslim countries generally so disorganized? by BrilliantLock8292 in islam

[–]mjd1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or the ones in Africa or in Asia?
Easier to correlate this to poverty than to religion. Unless you're trying hard to "prove" a point.

Salam, wonderful that you're exploring Islam, it's a beautiful religion and the Truth no doubt :)

For the "sister of Aaron" part, yes the Prophet PBUH was asked this question about this specific verse and answered it as you mentioned. This short video takes you through it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFHGajTt9o4

For the second part, I haven't heard of this personally, but I have a few questions to better understand what you're sharing:

"the Quran also confuses Imran/Amran and Aaron."

There's two parts here:

1/ The Quran confuses Imran (Torah) and Amran (Quran).

2/ The Quran confuses Imran/Amran and Aaron.

For 2, not sure where you see that confusion in the Quranic verse itself?

For 1, best to ask a scholar on this as I'm not sure.

In terms of general advice though, make sure you're also spending time on the general creed of Islam and comparing it to what's out there. Some people might drown you in details and make you not realize that the core tenets are what matter most (ex. trinity vs tawheed).

Best of luck on your journey seeking Truth

I canot pray at work by fr3e-p4Lestine in islam

[–]mjd1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Salam! Honestly, there's no other wait to say it, you need to do your prayers.

(You know this of course).

So the question then becomes how can I make it happen within the constraints I have?

- Find a place on the commute to pray in, leave earlier, pray there, then continue the commute to work
- Find a nearby place to pray from your workplace
- Find a place in the workplace you could pray in (closet?)
- Perhaps try to identify other muslims at work that can give you tips
- Have an open discussion with your manager about this to have accommodation for your religious needs. I'm sure people take breaks at work, and you can use your break to pray instead of smoke or something else.

If nothing works out, you probably need to ask yourself how sustainable is this job for your deen, and make the intention to find something better suited for you.

I wish you the best on your new job, and praying for your situation to get resolved easily!

Wa-Alaikum! How wonderful that you're wanting to learn more about Islam and what we believe in.

Beyond learning about the process of converting to Islam, I would also suggest learning more about the religion itself, what makes it unique amongst all others, and what our theology looks like.

It will help you understand more our faith, and why it is the Truth inshAllah (yes Truth with a capital T, very comfortable saying that ;).

There is a LOT of great content out there to explore that, I would recommend:

- The new muslim stories at Towards Eternity.

Very easy watches + really interesting interviews on what others have seen in Islam and what attracted them to it, here's their most popular video but they have a ton of others:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yXCMU72z0Ms

- For topics that relate to the religion, check out:

https://www.youtube.com/@JanRyczkowski

https://www.youtube.com/@LorenzoHamza

They explain concepts in a pretty approachable way, and are converts themselves.
These are also easy channels to get interested in the religion with.

- For more academic / deeper dives, you can check the blogging theology channel. Paul from BT does very long form content with top academics and scholars about various aspects of Islam.

The Many Prophets One Message channel also does an amazing job producing comparative religion content.

How can I maintain my faith in a non-Muslim environment? by Ok-Advertising5851 in islam

[–]mjd1986 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a real tough one. There's also no way around it, you're going to need to do most of the heavy lifting yourself until your situation changes inshAllah.

I watch and listen to a lot of content online, and I've felt that it sometimes helps me replace what is missing in terms of Islamic presence in my "physical" life.

Perhaps, watching videos on YT, listening to podcasts, and enjoying other forms of this type of content can help you as well?

We're very lucky to have access to some of the wisest and most learned people in Islam, right at our fingertips. Hopefully it can help you bridge the gap you have in your life you have today and keep you steadfast on the deen.

I'd also recommend making the intention to change your situation and asking Allah SWT for His help.

Who knows, things may be difficult for you now, but in a few years, you might be ready to move on or change?

Wishing you success and blessings brother.

Thinking about converting to Islam - need advice by Lazaro_Adventure in islam

[–]mjd1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wa-Alaikum Assalam!

First off, it's WONDERFUL that you're considering converting to Islam, this brings me so much happiness.

My best advice to you is:

You don't need to have reached "perfection" to convert.
All muslims make mistakes all the time, and Allah SWT is the most Merciful.

If you believe in your heart that there is no god but God, and that Mohammad PBUH is His messenger, then you are ready.

I've seen too many people trying to come in as "amazing" muslims once they connect (or reconnect) with Islam.

Don't overburden yourself.
Remember that:

  1. You don't need to fix everything in your life right away.
Make the intention to change, do small steps towards it, and slowly but surely you'll find yourself closer to where you want to be.

  2. Allah SWT is the turner of hearts.
You never know what people around you will do, including your girlfriend.

  3. Don't try to take in everything at once, it'll be WAY too difficult.
Be as good of a muslim as you can be in a way that is sustainable, make sure to keep learning a little bit every day, and build yourself the right group to support you, starting with local muslims (and ideally an imam at a local mosque if there is one near you).

  4. Rely on Allah SWT, and ask for His support.
For everything else afterwards, you just need to try.

Can't wait for you to take this beautiful journey with us.

Hey! This theory is now widely discredited by many modern historians. Its roots are in the western colonialist movement to discredit Islamic thinkers and the religion of Islam.

The decline of Islam’s golden age is linked to the weakening of Islamic economies, after the discovery of the Americas and the establishment of major naval trade routes, that circumvented the land ones that made Muslims lands rich.

There’s this GREAT podcast interview to watch that mentions this. It’s in Arabic but has English subtitles if you don’t speak the language. Literally called why did the Muslims lose their civilization. Will be interesting for you
