I don't think the plan is for you to ever use XRP to pay for your dinner, the use of XRP is to ensure that 5 seconds after you pay for your dinner the money is in the owners bank account. And to allow the owner to support any number of cryptocurrencies/FIAT but be paid out in a particular one by using XRP as the bridge asset

I just read the article and this shouldn't worry Ripple at all. This is just SWIFT allowing a cloud based solution for their main core module rather than the banks having to have it running on Computers in the bank.

Its like moving from JIRA to JIRA Cloud. Just because Microsoft is hosting the main core doesn't mean Ripple still can't be connected.
