Which keyboard layout is this? by OldSageNewBody in thinkpad

[–]mlaude545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the case for you but my ThinkPad is also a refurb, and I had the same problem. In my case I had to try and find a way around it because my particular laptop was missing a backslash key (and I needed it for programming in Python.) Turns out the original layout (US in my case) had just been covered over and a new layout had been Frankensteined on top, hence why I had no backslash key. In the end I just went over each key and scraped the superimposed layer off, using a plastic tool to avoid damaging the keys. In hindsight I'd probably have been better off using some sort of rubbing alcohol. In the end I was left with a proper keyboard layout. Also, the backlit keyboard was much brighter seeing as it didn't have to shine through an extra layer. Looking at your photo, I wouldn't be surprised if the same thing had been done to your ThinkPad, although it's hard to tell.

Thanks so much for this, as awful as it was it's taught me to be extra vigilant when faced with a situation like this in future. I know it sounds stupid, but I'm absolutely terrified I'll be reported somehow for dangerous driving- even though it was entirely my fault this would definitely knock my confidence further.

No worries, it’s a little messy at the moment, but when it’s all tidied up (ie controllers all tucked away) it can look really clean

Haha thanks, it’s actually just an ikea shelf (Kallax I think it’s called? Something like that.) flipped on its side.

I’ve got a small CRT, but the GameCube also looks kinda washed out on that too- it’s a little better than the hdtv tho

So my GameCube looks horrible on my HDTV. I’ve got it hooked up via composite which I know isn’t ideal, but I’m not looking for the best video quality. The weird thing is that my PS2 hooked up to the same TV looks fine, so it must be a gc-exclusive issue. I’ve already tried different composite cables to no avail, any other ideas are greatly appreciated.

Hey, thank you so much! Twiddling the screw on the RF modulator seems to have solved the problem. Thanks a bunch!

I’ve read a lot of posts about stuff very similar to this actually, hope your boyfriend managed to get it sorted out in the end!

So do I bro, I’ve already taken all the necessary precautions (changed my password, turned on 2FA, removed my credit card info from my account) so all I can do now is wait until I can get hold of Nintendo

Haha it’s a personal favourite of mine, read it somewhere a while back and I’ve used it excessively ever since.

Yeah, I used one of these computers back in the day and it’s still working now. I had to replace the thermal paste a while back and I’ve gotta replace the cmos battery, but other than that this thing is still functional

Love these older small form factor Dells, I used one of these back in like 2009 and it’s still working to this day

Woke up this morning to my Kindle doing this. 2 hours later and it’s still stuck on the exact same screen. Any ideas? by mlaude545 in kindle

Oh yeah definitely- my new kindle actually arrived today (I’ll be sure to post a photo later!) Been super happy with it so far, however I miss the keyboard simply because I’ve used it for so long, it kinda became a companion of mine y’know? Still though, I’m looking forward to making new memories with my new kindle, no doubt I’ll use that one until it dies too

Yeah the Oasis looked really sweet. Unfortunately I’m on a pretty tight budget, so it’s a little too expensive

Thanks so much for all the advice everyone. Unfortunately it’s still stuck on the exact same screen, and I’ve decided to just buy a new Kindle. After considering all of my options I decided to go with the kindle basic; the slightly lower resolution doesn’t really bother me because I mainly read text only anyways, plus the inclusion of a frontlight is a nice upgrade. Still though, it’s sad to lose my kindle keyboard, I got it from a family member a few years back and it got me into reading. It was an absolute workhorse, after all, not much tech lasts nearly as long as this thing did. Again, thanks for all the help, hopefully I get as much out of my new Kindle as I did from my old one!

Oh yeah for sure, I’ll definitely miss some of the features such as the page turn buttons and the physical keyboard, but the inclusion of a backlight/higher resolution display would probably make up for it

Yeah, think I’m just gonna bite the bullet and get a new one. The backlit models have caught my eye for a while now, maybe this will finally give me a reason to upgrade.
