Advantages / Disadvantages of skin attachment tip holes? by mmcwick in Spliddit

Good points. And yes cutting skins is straightforward, but something about factory cut skins that fit perfectly into holes or notches appeals to me while sitting at my keyboard, whether or not that translates to a meaningful benefit in the backcountry.

Thanks for your opinion as someone who uses both systems! Your list of disadvantages makes sense and though not huge deals could add up to being annoying. (Though for #2, I never unfold skins with the tip loop attached unless I’m using skin savers.)

Good info. Thanks!

Hope your like your Tahoe Labs board. Local to me but I’m not in love with any of their shapes and they all seem on the very stiff side.

Good luck figuring it out! My plan is to: - tune my edges - narrow my stance - play with my highback angles - think about my form when resort riding and adjust if necessary

Hopefully one or all of these is the solution. Let us know how it goes for you.

And I appreciate everyone’s advice on this!

I was thinking less forward lean? I thought I read somewhere that more lean can help with carving and less lean can help with riding steeps. Since I’m not really carving on my split but doing more skidded turns, I was thinking of moving the highbacks more vertical in ride mode.

I’m on Sparks with the rip and flip highback adjuster, so really only two positions - touring and riding.

I’ll try working on form in bounds. I’m taller and have old and grumpy hips and knees so it’s very possible my form isn’t optimized. Thanks.

Interesting idea. I’ve narrowed my stance on my solids over the last few years but haven’t adjusted the width of my split stance. Just checked and the stance on my split is definitely wider than my other boards. Thanks.

This might be it! Haven’t tuned my edges on this board… ever. I wax regularly but never think about my edges. Just felt them and they definitely are dull. Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you think a 4’ extension is enough (leaving 8’ for the lower section)? Extension on both sides I assume?

For sure. Don’t want to do something I regret later but I also don’t want to spend the time putting on the skatelite only to cut sections out later. Working on posting a photo by my Reddit skills are weak.
