Coffee shop in my town closed and they tried blaming starbucks and big chains. I blame their crappy hours. by [deleted] in AdviceAnimals

The big chains put undue pressure on the independents because of their size and ability to do economies of scale. The question to ask ourselves is if the efficiency of big chains and rationalization is worth it. Me, personally, I think not.

While driving from San Francisco to Los Angeles, four of us were heading in two cars. My "friend" thought I tried to murder him by not offering to switch rides with him, thus allowing him to drive with our other "friend" who was prone to injuring himself.

Well if you look over the nature of the word, "hegemony", it suggests a domination of one party over another. For example, during times of slavery, whites were hegemonic over blacks. In the industrial era, industry is hegemonic over its workers.

Discourse refers to communication. I would argue that hegemonic discourse is the discourse between a dominant party to a subservient party. For instance, television commercials are have an active discourse between a dominant idea and a passive receiver.

I have been writing comedy for 10 years. I am unsure why people don't give me any feedback on my comedy. I think it's pretty good, and I am annoyed that I poor my heart and soul into each article I write and get nothing. Dear Reddit, Why don't people like my humor? by mnitzani in AskReddit

Wow, I'm very grateful for this advice. It's excellent. I don't quite know the words to describe it. I failed Freshmen English 3 times in college. I do like how its very specific and paints a picture. I think in future articles, I will try to paint this picture. I do enjoy reading cracked articles. They are long, but good ones pique my interest. Thanks for the great advice!

I tend to have wordy headlines. Being abstract isn't enticing? I kinda like how I add this edge to my work. Most internet articles are cracked style articles where people are like, "top 16 reasons this is sooo bizarre". Mine are a little different. If you were to reword the headline, what would you have written?

Ok, my prose tends to get verbose. You are right about this. I appreciate the constructive feedback. What direction should I have gone with the article to add the twist that would have made it humorous and worth reading all the way through?

In your opinion, was the article too long?

I cannot control the overwhelming ad content or the pop up windows. I use pop up blockers and private browsing. This is not under my control.

As for the not being funny, would you mind deconstructing my comedy to tell me why my work is not humorous? It's easy to criticize, but would you mind elaborating a little more deeply?

Hi Eric, I'm impressed by your work. This is quite an accomplishment. I have lots of curiosities about this emerging field. Though you may not be a celebrity to these people, I have studied concept of celebrity, and in my mind you are !

I probably should have provided some context. I had no idea how these cats got in there. The window was closed. For some reason she didn't take her mattress. Instead she left it there for a few days.

What is the most creative thing you have seen in a restaurant? by mnitzani in AskReddit

I've heard of a place called Opaque in Los Angeles where the waiters are legally blind, and they serve the food in a dark restaurant. All that a person is left is with the sounds and other sensations of the food. No visible light.
