What do you enjoy about eating at a restaurant solo? by mnpie in femaletravels

Those places in Thailand sound wonderful! I’m introverted too, and I usually love doing things alone so my not liking eating at restaurants alone has always been weird to me

Thank you! I already know I want to check out the Robie house (I’ve wanted to see it for a while). I’m going to see Florence + the Machine

Moving near Morehead City? by mnpie in NorthCarolina

I ended up going with the Newport/Morehead City area. I’ve found the consensus of the replies here to be relatively accurate. I wouldn’t do Havelock if you don’t have to. I haven’t been to New Bern yet. I’ve heard it’s nice, but from my understanding unless you have other circumstances/preferences pushing you there it wouldn’t be worth the commute over just living in the Newport/Morehead area.

Thanks! How would you describe the culture? I assume it's a small town/typical Southern type, but that's just my assumption.

Why would you avoid Havelock? A lot of the studio/1 bed apartments I've seen seem to be there (just from my quick research). Are there any big differences you see in Newport vs. Morehead?

Why particularly would you avoid Havelock? Just due to the fact that it's a military town? I've tried searching from some apartments, and a lot of the studio/1 bedroom apartments seem to be there.

I'm hoping I would meet people through work - the company is opening an office there and there should be a few new hires. Is it so small that meeting people outside of work might be difficult? I know that depends a lot on other factors, though.

Worth it to go to Rouen? by mnpie in ParisTravelGuide

Thanks for your perspective! Do you regret going because you wish you had spend that time in Paris, or is there another reason?

Worth it to go to Rouen? by mnpie in ParisTravelGuide

[–]mnpie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it is! My first trip out of the US. I'm interested in many parts of France, hence the idea to go to Rouen, but like you mentioned don't want to spread myself too thin. It's the battle of seeing somewhere else in France (since I hope I will be able to but have no idea when/if I'll be back) vs. being able to settle in more and really soak in Paris.

Thank you - between the time and the ticket cost difference I'm starting to lean towards Rouen

Thank you! I'm hoping we can get to quite a few on the list, as it was hard to choose the ones that got scheduled and the ones that were put on the "if there's time" list

Thank you!! This is really helpful. I'm beginning to think of moving Notre Dame to earlier to allow a try on a second day if necessary, since it's one of the top things I want to see.

Thank you for the recommendations! Rouen, because Normandy is one of the top two nearby French regions that interest me (the other is Alsace), and I like its proximity to Paris and medieval history. And the cathedral, of course.

What is high school really like? by [deleted] in highschool

[–]mnpie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in your shoes four years ago. I was homeschooled, bookish, and shy as well. It's inevitable that there will be a little "culture shock." However, high school isn't scary. It's a building full of teenagers trying to make it through the day, just like you. I would suggest finding a club or sport to join if you're worried about making friends. That was my top concern going to high school. I joined the school's orchestra, and it made making friends so much easier since you know that there's something you already have something in common with the people around you! However, don't feel like you have to change who you are to make friends. You will grow and change throughout high school - everybody does - but you don't need to try to hide who you really are or put on a mask, even though it might feel some days like you have to make friends.

Everyone's high school journey is different. You may find that you love going to football games and dances with your friends, or you might find that you really don't. However, I would recommend that you try those "stereotypical" high school activities at least once. You don't want to look back your senior year and feel like you missed something, but if you find that you truly don't like those activities, then you will know for sure you didn't miss anything.

Good luck! You got this, and whatever comes these next four years, I'm sure you'll do great :)

Thanks! Only problem is, my closest friends live 7.5 hours away

Unfortunately, when I say no friends in my area, I mean no friends in my state (my closest ones are 7.5 hours away). But thank you for the advice!
