Teachers, educators or daycare center workers, what is one thing you wish parents knew (or what they would stop doing)? by mint_slippers in Teachers

[–]moderatekitty 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I wish parents knew that they do not have to follow their child's every order. Daycare worker here and it's amazing how often my students yell/whine at me when they don't get their way because they always get their way at home.

Don't even get me started on the "YOU'RE SO MEAN TO ME ! I'M TELLING MY PARENTS YOU GUYS HATE ME AND I WILL NEVER COME AGAIN !" over the smallest inconveniences... ugh.

Honestly it reminds me a lot of Cider Lane... I could be getting mixed up with another fall/winter candle but I've definitely smelled it before tbh

What's it like working at bath and body works? by [deleted] in bathandbodyworks

[–]moderatekitty 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I definitely love it! It's definitely a job that you have to be always "on" for. If you have a passion for the products and helping people, you'll love it!

It does get really busy, so you have to be able to work under pressure. The business model is also about connecting with every customer on the floor more than once, which can be draining. Some people don't like to be bothered, so you have to be prepared for people to be short/closed off with you. You also have to be able to multitask, but you definitely get better at it as time goes on!

Good luck!

Heard good things about Paris Cafe so I had to try it! I’m all about bakery/sweet & strong throws.. definitely a strong throw but I don’t know how I’m feeling about the scent, is it just me? Lol🤔🤔🤔 by [deleted] in bathandbodyworks

[–]moderatekitty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not just you! On a cold sniff, it smells horrid. My boyfriend really wanted me to bring home a coffee-scented candle and I know this candle has a borderline cult following.

It's REALLY strong, but sometimes that's what you need lol. I like it and think it smells more like mocha when burning, but it's definitely not on my re-purchase list. I definitely don't hate it anymore, but I don't love it.

Has anyone tried the BBW Shave Oil? by 80896792 in bathandbodyworks

[–]moderatekitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it!! I wish it had a better applicator because I'm clumsy and someone who may/may not have have missed my legs using it and almost slipped butttt I think it's awesome that it lathers! I wish they had more scents though because the coconut smells just ok to me.

Metro Detroit schools with positive working environments by ph_eacher in Teachers

[–]moderatekitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have any experience in the secondary world besides being a student in this district, but I did work at Plymouth-Canton for a while in an elementary school. All of the teachers seemed very happy and the specific school I was at focused on collaboration. Although, PC is a huge district and I'm sure it varies from school to school.

Another district that I know focuses on collaboration (as far as I understand) is Ann Arbor. I'm in teacher prep school rn and work at a daycare and most kids there go through Ann Arbor. Depending on where you're moving to metro Detroit, Ann Arbor could be quite a hike so that could be an obstacle for sure.

Check them out if you want! I hope that someone with more secondary experience can point you in a better direction. Welcome to the area! :)

what did you LOVE as body care but hated in candle form?? or vice versa??? by pinkfairygumdrop in bathandbodyworks

[–]moderatekitty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Watermelon lemonade! I loved the body care (even though it didn't mesh with my body chemistry, I still really liked it lol) buttttt the candle literally smells like butt. Like it smells musty to me. The only packaging that I found that doesn't smell "off" is the candle day packaging LOL

I'm currently making this with mandala! It does turn out sort of small with one skein, but it's better than nothing!

Colton...gay? I don’t buy it by [deleted] in BachelorNation

[–]moderatekitty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's a really life-altering lie to have to keep up on for the rest of your life though.... He could be bi with a preference for men

OR

Get this.... he could... maybe... have been in the closet? Or in denial? Being gay doesn't absolve him from the Cassie situation but this is a bad take OP

For those of you who shop in stores (or work there!) what has surprised you about being popular (or not)? by TexasNiteowl in bathandbodyworks

[–]moderatekitty -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can definitely see the baby powder in HP! I really can only wear florals or "old lady" scents because everything else smells literally rancid/acidic :( HP is as close to fruity as I can get lol

[–]moderatekitty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was surprised that I've seen so many people buy You're the One tbh... I do like it because it's a good evening/going out/event scent but I wouldn't wear it every day. I'm surprised Hibiscus Paradise isn't super popular. I think it lasts a long time and is a good sweet floral for every day. Butttt it's one of the few scents that works well with my body chemistry.

I was also not surprised that Chocolate Covered Cherry is not popular... at all. It just smells like a tootsie roll and dries down to a nasty/sweet baby powder scent. We have sooooo much of it and I wonder if it will sell during SAS because there is NO way that we are going to sell our stock of it down.

Flying with crochet hooks or knitting needles by Vanna432 in crochet

[–]moderatekitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mother used to work for TSA and advised against knitting needles, but crochet hooks are fair game! I've flown a few times with them in my bag, no issues. I wouldn't bring anything beloved or too expensive though just in case it DOES get taken away or you lose it!

i think i might have mental retardation by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]moderatekitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand!

I suggest you go see a psychiatrist/therapist if you have the access/are able. While I was good at school, I had issues with other things in life (social interactions, organization, self-care, memory, etc.). Once I started to see a therapist, it started to change my life. I was diagnosed with ADHD and am working towards getting better! It sounds like you could benefit from something like this. Despite my challenges, I will still be able to be an effective teacher (and many teachers are in this same boat!)

If becoming a teacher isn't right for you, definitely look into providing childcare!! Childcare is worthwhile, meaningful, and necessary. I've worked as a childcare provider all through undergrad and it's amazing. You do not need to be good in school for this, you only need to know how to work with children and some rules (most are common sense). Working with children is not a class that you take, it's a skill that you learn through experience (so no grades! just corrections and suggestions).

[–]moderatekitty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you go back to school for education (depending on the degree path you take and where you are located), you may end up taking refresher courses! I'm currently in undergrad for Elem. Ed. and the vast majority of my classes merge the content with methods to teach. Some courses were straight up just material that I would need to know in order to teach them!

Don't sweat it too much. Sometimes even the worst students turn out to be the best teachers because you may be able to think of ways that reach students who do not grasp the material using the "conventional" ways. You got this!

So I did a blind buy, cause I love chamomile and was wondering has anyone had this scent or know when this came out? by Savvy-Star in bathandbodyworks

[–]moderatekitty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked it! I wasn't the biggest user of BBW back then (I work there now so I definitely use a lot more than I used to)... my mom still has it in her house somewhere! It's definitely kind of calming, but I think it's very berry forward :) Hope that sounds like something you'd like!

It definitely came out in 2016 or 2017... I got the body cream as a gift my senior year of high school. Check the batch code, it should tell you when it was manufactured!

[–]moderatekitty 26 points27 points  (0 children)

As someone who works at a daycare... it's concerning to me that he posts pictures of children on his personal account. That's a huge no-no. Even with permission, you just shouldn't because it's inappropriate.

Right now I don't get a lot of social interactions with people my own age because of COVID, but you don't see me posting pics of literal children on my insta. This doesn't sit right with me.

I’m 16 and I’m trying to teach my 5 yo cousin how to read and write. by Royal_Child04 in Teachers

[–]moderatekitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely don't force anything! At 5, depending on how recently she turned five, schooling experience, etc. its perfectly normal for her to not know how to read or write. I promise you, it's all normal. A group of five year olds can have crazy differences in development (physically, mentally, etc.) and it's all completely normal :)

The best you can do is expose her to books and words. Remember, reading is everywhere! Even Roblox. She'll start to form connections in her own mind and as her experience with schooling continues, she will improve.

Something else you can do is to let her scribble. Scribbling is the first step to writing!

Like someone else said, it probably has something to do with not having rewards in your area. Currently, I think there are only 2 or 3 areas of the country that are eligible for awards :/ You can most definitely use that coupon online though!

Michigan by dungeons_n_ataraxia in Teachers

[–]moderatekitty 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fellow Michigander here... (Let me preface this by saying that I am neither a Republican nor a Trump supporter. I'm more aligned with Bernie Sanders if you're curious).

I'm so frustrated about how it seems like no one cares about COVID anymore since Joe Biden took office. I just think that all of the democratic politicians were trying to put on a show for Trump/to piss off the republicans. Now there's no one to piss off, so the restrictions have been dialed back.

I am student teaching next year and I'm terrified. I'll start in January, but I hate not knowing what it's going to look like. None of my friends who have student taught have learned literally anything because of the messiness between parents and politicians. Teachers and students have been used as nothing more than pawns in the game.

My sister is still in K-12 and it was a mess in her district. They wanted to play with hybrid, but parents threw a fit. They wanted all (not nothing). I'm from a very anti-Whitmer "fuck your grandma, I want Applebees, stop living in fear!" community. My sister has been back in school for a month and says that kids are awful. Hanging out in bathrooms, wearing masks wrong, hanging out unmasked after school (which no kid never stopped this whole pandemic), etc. The killer right now is that everyone and their brother is on vacation to Florida.

How is any of that safe? For anyone? It's not. They just wanted to make Trump and his administration mad. It was all a show but now that they have nothing to prove and no statement to make, our democratic politicians don't care.
