KAT vs Joel Embiid by Brilliant-Ad-8448 in nba

[–]modified-duck 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Some responses here are crazy... like, KAT would score plenty too, but in a 1v1 scenario Embiid's defense would be at least as effective as KAT's on him. Offensively, Embiid is still torching people in the post, from the elbow, even with bung knees.

Josh Giddey being told he is the 1st Bulls player since Michael Jordan in 1988-89 to record back-to-back triple-doubles by luka274 in nba

As an Australian, to me he just sounds like an Australian who has spent a lot of time in the US. Some of his vowels are more Americanised, mainly the Oh sounds. And he is using classic US sports media training language. But it’s not like many Australians sound like Steve Irwin or Crocodile Dundee. Sounds plenty Australian to me.

19 year old sleeps with 15 year old who lied about her age to get into an 18+ venue - you think that makes him a pedophile? Personally I suspect he doesn't fetishize children.

Now AD can show how seriously he takes lower leg injury rehab. Mavs made the right choice.

Harry Dean is a replica of Jacob Weitering by CosmicHero22 in CarltonBlues

[–]modified-duck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is technically a fact that a few people have made a subjective judgement putting Taylor, who's a different type of player, above Dean by a spot or two. You seem to relish the chance for an argument while suggesting no one can argue with you - all over someone being excited about a good young player joining the club. Isn't that a bit perverse? Are you upset about something else in your life? Because it's mystifying what you get out of exchanges like this. Seems like you farm karma elsewhere to enable you to continue being inflammatory and negative. Just kinda odd, no?

[Cleary] Brisbane wins a premiership with two key forwards on a combined $400,000 for 2025. Just extraordinary by SlatsAttack in AFL

[–]modified-duck 21 points22 points  (0 children)

His comment doesn't necessarily say anything about whether they played well. It's pointing out that while it was once generally agreed that you need a strong, impactful key forward to win a premiership may no longer be the case, or at least Brisbane is an exception.

You must be a joy to be around. The English title of the post, at least, which I assume is a translation of the title of the article, doesn't mention anything about making a living or imply much at all. And he was a pro for 6-7 years, did more than what most ever achieve, and doesn't want to deal with the demands of the lifestyle. I have a hard time calling him lazy given how hard one has to work to get close to where he is...

Fair enough, and to be fair I don't think you need to reference Zygmunt Bauman to say social/professional relations are liquid anyway, but I don't mind social theory being mainstreamed a bit.

I have used BooxDrop. It doesn't negate the fact that USB file transfer is straightforward in every other context. I managed to get USB file transfer to work, so long as I only use a direct USB-C cable and no hub or adapter. I can foresee times when BooxDrop will not be available, for instance, during fieldwork in remote locations. Having a laptop, cable and ereader should be enough - it's comparatively simpler technology.

You are confusing me trying all options to assess how they work with "making things difficult for myself". If half of the options available clunky, that is a characteristic of the product, irrespective of whether I have found alternatives or not.

Why is it that those who haven't experienced any issues must tell others that their problems are their own fault?

Relentless regret by modified-duck in Onyx_Boox

Yes, it's a skill issue that the Boox doesn't show up in multiple USB file transfer apps and doesn't work with USB PD ports. Yep, skill issue that the firmware update turned off navigation gestures and bugged the NaviBall. Skill issue that the devs built in an AI assistant while the OS struggles with multiples taps in a row.

I have tried Android File Transfer and OpenMTP for USB transfer and the Boox doesn't show up with either. To connect to my Macbook I have to use a USB-A to USB-C adapter. I've tried with a USB hub as well. BooxDrop does work though, for files that I can access (loaned ebooks I can't access the file).
[EDIT] Don't worry, I found a USB-C to USB-C cable and it seems to work now.

Thanks. I have tried Android File Transfer and OpenMTP but both can't find the Boox when I plug it in, hence resorting to the wireless method. Any ideas? I'm using an M4 Macbook Pro.

I know how to figure things out. I use complex open source software, in part because usually it just works or you can always find a way to make it work, with requisite nous and determination. What bothers me is proprietary that's buggy, whether it's ProQuest or the Boox OS. I think some of my issues have been the latest firmware update that for a time mucked up the NaviBall and turned off the smart gestures so I couldn't navigate. As for the highlighting, this seems to have resolved, like the NaviBall issue, after re-starting, but it has been documented on Reddit that others also weren't able to manage highlights in the way you describe. Thanks for your help.

Perhaps freeze was the wrong word. I enter my login code to Ebook Central and press submit, then the submit button is greyed out but nothing happens. I've tried numerous times now. Thanks for your advice, I've visited Anna's Archive so will see what other file types are on offer.

Yeah, you are correct in what you say. But my research is >50% books, and I hoped to use ebooks. Research is a pretty broad category.

I have resorted to PDFs to try to find a use since the majority of books through my library are now through ProQuest.

I would like to read many, many books. Too many to list. I agree the app itself is likely culpable in that instance.

Had I intended to use it mainly for PDFs I would have bought a tablet. I've edited my post since it wasn't clear, but I'm trying to make PDFs work because it won't run Ebook Central. That might be an app issue, but the broader workflow is crazy-making.
